drop in for an 8:1$ o'clock skirmish. The Benders, coached by Roger
Wiley of recent U of Oregon playing fame, bring with them a 2-0
record In league play to date, alter

The victory over Corvallis was ac-
83-91. By means of comparison, the
Vikings toppled Corvallis 35-29

perfect 3-0 league record into the

habeen buzzing along in great
style in league play, their latest
conquest at Eugene Thursday
night, 52-39. A victory over Bend
tonight will push the.Viks far in
front of the circuit derby.
The Lava Bears won't be by
any means tneiauesi team aaiem

be one of the fastest. Wiley has
only two six-footers in his start
ing lineup, Reg Halligan and Ed
Kribs, both at six feet even. Cen
ter Jack Robison is 5-11 and guards
Al Christiansen and Bob Hawes
are 5-8 and 5-11 respectively. Lar
ry Carroll, a 6-foot, 2-incher is a
frontline reserve, however.
Against these lads Hauk will toss
starters Doug Rogers (6-3), Way
lie Walling (6-5), Jim Rock (6-2),
Captain Daryl Girod (5-11) and
Larry Chamberlain (5-9). Sterling

letic Director Vera Gilmore, pos
sibly from the City league.

SEATTLE, Jan. 20-UP-Free
wheeling Frank Guisness cascaded
27 points tonight in leading the
University of Washington Huskies
to a 69-49 basketball victory over
the University of Oregon Webfoots.
A crowd of 11,000 high for the
season saw the Northern division
leading Huskies overpower Oregon
all the way. The halfume count
was 37-23 in Washington's favor.
After an opemng flurry in which
the Webfoots swapped the lead
three times with Washington, the
Huskies moved ahead at 7-8 at the
end of four minutes. From there
on they built the margin up stead
ily until it hit 25 points near the
end ol tne tussle.
It must have seemed to the often-befuddled
Oregonlans that
there were a half dozen guisnesses
on the floor. The Vancouver, Wash,
sophomore connected for 14 points
in the first half. He was impartial,
scoring both from midcourt and
under the loop. Time and again he
broke free to dribble in for his
specialty shot: a leaping, under
hand lay-in. He ran a string of
nine free throws without a miss.
The Webfoots could not work
the ball through Washington's air
tight defense for close tosses and
many of their long shots rimmed
the hoop and fell away.
Will Urban led Oregon in scor
ing with 13 points and Sophomore
Center Jim Vranizan had 11. La
Don Henson seconded Guisness on
the Washington side with 11.
Coach John Warren tried the
two-platoon system in the first half
but found nothing could stop the
winning surge of the Huskies.

loui-Euiea DasKetDau game.
The Cougars pulled into second
Dlace in the Northern TUvisinn nf
the Pacific Coast conference by
winning lomgnt and tne loss dorp
ped the Beavers to third.
The officials called 53 fouls, 28
of them on Oregon State, and
Cougar accuracy at the free throw
line in the second half formed a
good stretch of that hot streak.
They made 15 free throws in th
final 20 minutes.
WSC took a 5 to 3 lead after
six minutes and was never headed. :
But the Cougars couldn't shake
the pesky Beavers until midway in
the final period when they began
to turn the affair into a rout.
It was 22 to 17 at the half for
WSC but OCS's Bob Payne put in'
an underhand setup- promptly at
the start of the second period to
close it to 22 to 19. The Beavers
never got any closer. .
Washington State held a 10
point edge, 43 to 35, when Payne
and Len Rinearson fouled out with
six minutes to play. When they
left the Beavers' chances of win
ning went with them.
OSC used three men at center to
guard Gene Conley and the tall
Cougar pivot ..was held to three
field goals.
The two teams meet here again
tomorrow.
