Light Holds i Cougar at Bay EVERETT, Sent. 22 l-iP)-, A country housewife armed only with a flashlieht held n roiipar I at bay outside her home east of here last nipht. j Mrs. Russell Campbell said she discovered the1 cougar about 9:30 rm., when she went out to lock her chicken pen. The animal, "about the size of a large Airedale dog,"? bounded up a ladder into a nearby prune tree when the light pinpointed it. She held thhe beam on the cougar a few moments before re turning to the house to get her husband. When they 5 returned her husband armed with a rifle, the cougar had vanished. Deportation Hearings Set PORTLAND, Sept. 22 -(P)- The" four Oregonians charged with membership in subversive organi zations will be given deportation hearings October 3. The four are Karolina Halvor sen, Casimiro AbsOlar; Hamish Scott McKaye, all Portland, and John L. Stenson, West I Linn. All have lived in Oregon many years A committee formed to defend the group said that petitions ask ing the immigration service to stop deportation proceedings j would be circulated shortly , Dallas flairs Fall Flower Show Sept. 28 By Lillie L. Madsen DALLAS Once again the Dal las Garden club is putting on one of its colorful fall shows. The date has been set for September 28 and it is open to the public, at the Dal las Chamber of Commerce rooms in the city hall, from 2 to 8:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission. All amateur flower growers are invited to participate in the show and entries will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Late entries will not be permitted to compete but will be entered for display only. Named the flower or plant exhibited, adds to its value in the horticultural classes, garden club members report-Dahlias in collections and speci men entries will be featured. Early chrysanthemums are also expect ed to be quite numerous. Late summer flowers to be judged in clude asters, marigolds, zinnias, tuberous rooted begonias, roses, and "any other perennial". Fuchs ias are also being displayed for competition in the horticultural classes. Besides the usual coffee table, dining table, buffet, mantle, an alogous and all white arrange ments, new divisions have been added to the artistic group. There is competition in the breakfast table arrangement. There is a class for the public place church or hall both for the floor and for the speakers table. A section pro vided from "product of field and orchard." Another division accepts entries from "roadside and for est." One section is for any "com bination of fruits or vegetables and Cowers", while anotherand on expected to be among the fav orites for "Indian summer Cow ers and bronzt foliaga in copper or brass. , The final division is that of cor sages which provides for street, afternoon tea, evening and feather varieties.-) All-in-all, the Dallas Garden club show, which In the past has been excellent, gives every indi cation of being .orth driving out to see Dr. Ray J. Defendants are Ralph L. Van Blericom and Shirley M. Brattain, who (Were in the car going along Breyman street, and Richard O. Chase, driver of the car in which Evans was riding.
