July 5 (Special ) CorhDlete results of contests in the final day of the Albany Timber carnival Monday night were an- bounced today. M.J. Harper, Springfield, won the speed climb with his low time f 46.5 seconds; Alfred Firehau, Lebanon, was second with 49 sec onds, and Harold Johnson and Hank Firehau, Lebanon, tied for third places With 50 seconds. In the bucking competition, George Moen, E a s t Stanwood, Wash., was first with the low time of 2 minutes, 3.5 seconds, and Ben Lentz, Newberg, was second with M minutes, 11 seconds. Ronald W. Dimick, Jefferson, chopped his way to first place in sthe log chopping contest in 1 min- . ute, 56.5- seconds, and Mike f lyn, Dallas, was second with with a 1 minute, 50 second performance. Jim Herron, Kelso, was first in the log rolling, Harold Hooper, Longview; second, and Russ Elli son, third. Herron became national joust ing champion by placing first in . that event. His brother, Eddie Her ron, also of Kelso, was second. Church Group Holds Meeting At Aurora - V AURORA The Aurora Presby terian church Ladies Aid met with E. C. Diller "Wednesday" with 13 members present. Guests were Mrs. George Kraus, "Newberg, Mrs. N. E. Manock, Canby, and daughter. Mrs. Werner Dinteman, who. is leaving for her home in Georgia to join her husband .Capt. Dinteman. Mrs. Manock 'will accompany her and remain for a short visit. Mr. and 'Mrs. Max Doan and children, visitors at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. O. Ottawy, have purchased a home ' in Salem. They will move this week. They formerly lived in To ledo. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Miller and Mr. and Mr. John Truman M?ller are on a trip to Archer, Tex. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Mrs. C. L; Welch and Jier daugh- Former Salem Woman Dies In California BETHEL Mrs. E. E. Matten has received word of the death of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Olive Curran Aschenbrenner of Covena, Calif. Her death, caused by a stroke, took place Friday and the funeral serv ice was held Tuesday. She was the widow; of the late George W. As chenbrenner, brother of Mrs. Mat ten. Mr. and Mrs. Aschenbrenner grew up in the Salem area and both graduated from Willamette university in the class about 1902. They then went to the Philippine Islands as teachers in the schools there for three years, following which they went to Covena where they purchased an orange grove and spent the remainder of their lives. - . They were long time members of the Methodist church in Salem and later in Covena. Their family consisted of a son, George, and a daughter. Iris.
