Some 200 persons jammed the city hall -last; nigbj as the council conducted a three-nour neanng on the question. Eight of them argued that the rent controls should be retained and 15 others called for immediate de-control. The council has .delayed a de cision. If it: approves decontrol, the next step will be to petition the governor. : e Try . Case Against Gons Dropped Indictments against four Ore gon state prison convicts charging attempted escape from the pnson last fall- in a flax plant fire were dropped Thursday. The indictments were dismissed on order of Marion County Cir cuit Judge George Duncan ''on mo tion of District Attorney E. O. Stadter, jr. The order stated there is "hot sufficient evidence to sus tain a conviction of the crime charged." . Indicted were John O. Pinson. who escaped from the prison May 30 and still at large, and Lawrence Ogilvie, John Edward Ralph and Allan D. Brumfield, all now in prison. - , The men, however, are slated to stand, trial on charges of arson in connection with the flax plant fire. Two other convicts were .convicted early this month on similar charges by circuit court juries. THE FAMILY OF T! LATE WESLEY M. WTTE Hattie Lacey, 93, Succumbs Hattie Miriam Lacey, 93, died Thursday at the Methodist Old People's home here-where she had lived for 18 years. She had been III for a week following a stroke. Her husband, the Rev. A. F. La cey, preceded her in death. He Was a Methodist pastor in Oregon for many years. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs., Fred Nelson, and a granddaughter, Mrs. R. D. Bowman, both of Pert land. Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the W. T.'Rigdon chapel with the Rev. Louis C. Kirby of ficiating. Air Strip Due Near Paulina PRINEVTLLE, June 30-(iP)-The state board of aeronautics plans to construct only one air strip east of the Cascades this year. Judge A, R. Bowman "said he received word from W. M. Bart lett, aeronautics director, that the strip will be near Paulina, about 65 miles south of here.
