Portland Man Mentioned For Insurance Posilion The name of Robert Taylor, Portland. Oregon Fire Underwrit ers association, was mentioned here Friday as a possible suc cessor to Seth Thompson, who retires as state insurance com missioner late this month. In other areas, including Salem, seasonal agricultural workers will continue to be needed, but at pres ent all calls are being filled, the mployment officials said. A total of 10,848 farm place ments were made last month, a gain of 40 per cent over a year ago. Caneberry picking has started in the upper Willamette valley-, but so far the labor supply has been adequate. Except in higher areas, strawberry picking is com pleted and most of the cherry crop has been gathered, employment officials said. I94S 6 Indicted by Marion County Grand Jury Six persons were indicted Fri day by Marion county grand jury, which also issued one secret in dictment and returned two indict ments as "not true." Indicted were the following, all but one ot whom are in the county jail: Richard Carter, 1275 S. 12th st.. on a charge of unlawful manage ment of a watercraft, alleging that he caused another boat to over turn May 30. Carter, who is free on $500 bail on this charge, is fac ing trial next month on a charge of receiving and concealing stolen property and is to be sentenced in July after pteading guilty on a charge of larceny. ' Selma Frances Fones, 303 S, Winter st. on a charge of larceny of about $1,100 from Willamette university, where se has been employed. She was to plead Fri day in district court but waived preliminary examination and was bound over to the grand jury Jack O. Todd, 2270 N. 4th st., charged with larcenv of a car owned by Reinholt Blum on May 1. Delores Todd, J a c k's wife, charged with unlawful possession of narcotics morphine sulphate, morphine and atropine. She has already pleaded guilty (and is awaiting sentence) on a charge of aiding him in an attempted escape from the county jail recently. Clifton Thomas, jr.. and Shirley Ann Denn. both of Los Angeles, charged with attempting to obtain money by false pretenses by al legedly passing a $35 check to Francis C. Schmidt at Mt. Angel. Washington county authoritiees have asked the sheriffs office to hold Thomas for them on a charge of obtaining money by false pre tenses. Released from charges of ob taining money by false pretenses were Roy J. Sutton, Oregon City route 1, box 623, and H. E. Broth erton, Brooks.
