VACATION HEARING SET Marion county court Saturday set May 27 at 10 a.m. as the time to hear a petition asking the coun ty to vacate a portion of tracts and roads in - Sunnyside Fruit Farms. The petition was filed re cently by Floyd I E. Bates and William Moot. The tracts are lo cated about five ' miles south of Salem in the Roiedale area. Baldock that county road 845 join the Salem-Turner road (highway 222) at a new intersection just east of Cottage farm on top of a hill. The present connection is Plaques From French Rail Car Missing Members of 40 et 8 Marion county voiture 153, are searching for four plaques missing from a French railway box car entrusted to their care, they reported Satur day. The box car was part of the French "merci" train which visited Salem several months ago. It was given to the Oregon 40 et 8, which in turn loaned it to the Marion county voiture for use at its state convention here next August. The car was originally covered with a total of 40 plaques. Four were discovered missing recently. They are brightly colored flat ob- iects about 12 bv 8 inches, made of a sort of pressed wood and con tain French inscriptions. "Their absence mars the beauty of the car," a member said. "They are irreplaceable and we want them back. They should be re turned to the Legion hall on South Commercial street or sent to Bra zier Small, chef de garc of the Marion county voiture. Pahlplilet fells 40-Year History of Browning Shows Fred J. Browning, Salem, is dis tributing copies of the 32-page il lustrated tabloid he has had print ed telling the story of the Brown ing Amusement shows, which has operated over a 40 year period. Founded by his father and carried on now by the sons, the Browning shows are well-known features of the summer fair and carnival cir cuit. The booklet tells the Browning story in pictures and text and re produces many newspaper, articles praising the Browning shows. The headquarters of the shows are in Salem and the winter season is used to refurbish the shows for the summer run. The Browning ware houses are south of Salem on Lib erty road. " Seabees Finish Training Periods Annual training stints of two weeks were completed recently by members of organized Seabee company 13-9. Salem. Traveling to Port Mueneme, Calif., were J. A. Mrs Strickland Dies in Portland Mrs. Fill Kook Strickland, 26, Corvallis, former resident of Sa lem, died at Good Samaritan hos pital in Portland Friday night af ter an illness of 10 days. Mrs. Strickland graduated from Salem schools and later attended Willamette university. Survivors are the widower, Jean Strjckland, Corvallis; moth er, Mrs. Emma Kook, Salem, and a brother.
