5" 1 - P Ths Statesmen, Salem, Oregon, Saturfayi April 23, IMS Klission Plane Here Wednesday With Leaders for Youth Rally A missionary airplane, making its only Oregon! stop in Salem, will canter a statewide Assemblies of God youth rally "Wednesday. The vent Is part of the "Speed the Light" program for which the Christ's Ambassadors over the -nation purchased the plane end considerable ether war surplus equipment. The "Ambassador" plane will land at McNary field at 2 p.m. and will be on inspection during the i : r afternoon, with some flights sched uled for local persons. At 7:45 pjn. will be a mass Christ's Ambassadors youth rally in the Evangelistic Tabernacle, Assembly of God, conducted by the Hew. John Hall, missionary from the African Congo, coming with the plane, and members of the crew Chief Pilot Herman Rcvis, former navy lieutenant command der; co-pilot and navigator Rob ert Hare, former navy captir., and Radio Operator Paul Gatts, who did similar duty in the merchant marine during World War II. Arrangements locally are being made by the Rev. Walter S. Fred erick, pastor, and Miss Billie Oli ver, local CA president. The plane, with headquarters in Springfield, Mo., was purchased early in 1948. Since then it has I flown more than 55,000 miles ana toPDed in 23 countries, carrying 83 missionaries and their families to foreign fields. It has just re turned from a round trip to India. Funds Climb For Church, Sweet Home SWEET HOME, April 22 Sub scriptions for construction of a building for the Community Meth odist church were nearly tripled, reaching $15,415, Monday evening at a kickoff dinner in the high school cafeteria. A large crowd attended. Estimated cost is $50,000 for the church building, which is to be erected at 6th avenue and I street, en property already owned by the church. A projected community ball will be added later, depending upon money raised. The church was organized last December, and membership has reached the 100 mark. April 22 The edifice depicted above by architect's drawing Is to be constructed for Imman uel Lutheran church in Albany at 2nd and Madison streets, directly west of the present structure. The building, of reinforced concrete with native stone veneer and trim, will have a nave seating 23 per sons, a chancel and sacristy, chapel, nursery and class rooms, kitchen, dining rooms and stage. Elery Parrish, first resident pas tor for Liberty Church of Christ, is to conduct his first service here on Sunday, May 1. He will come from Parkrose Christian church in Portland. Acting pastor now is Darl Hunt, student at Northwest Christian college in Eugene, since the re tirement of the Rev. C. R. Moore early this year. Construction work is continu ing on the new church, which is hoped to be ready for use by mid-tsummer. The congregation now meets in Liberty schoolhouse. The building is a joint project for several churches of Marion, Polk and Linn counties. The building committee comprises trustees from Liberty and from First and Court Street Christian churches in Salem. CE Planning State Meeting About one dozen Christian En deavor members from three Salem churches are expected to be in As toria next week end, April 28 to May 1, for the annual CE state convention. They will be led by the Rev. Walter Naff, associate pastor of First Christian church, who will be song leader for the convention. So far. Salem churches renr. sented will be First and Court Street Christian and First Presby terian. Speakers at the meeting, on the theme of "I Am the Way," will include Dr. Mark Koehler, head of the Bible department and chaplain at Whit worth college, Spokane, and Dr. O. LeRoy Walter, pastor of Moreland Presbyterian church and state CE citizenship superintend ent. Speaker, Choir At CMA Church The Rev. Thomas. Williamson of Akron, Ohio, will speak at Sun day morning worship at Christ ian Missionary Alliance church. He will also speak each night next week at 7:45. The 40-voice Renannah choir of Simpson Bible institute, Seattle, under direction of Leland Hag gerty, will be presented in public concert Sunday night at 7:30. Clayton Booth, director of music there, will also be present. A varied program will be given to gether with vocal and instrumen tal numbers by various members of the Choral club and institutte faculty. Church to Break Ground on Sunday Ground will be broken Sunday for the new Sunday school temple at Jason Lee Methodist church, ac cording to Dr. Louis C. Kirby, pas tor. The public service will be dur ing the 11 o'clock worship period, the first portion of which will be in the sanctuary. Included will be short talks by C. M. Roberts, trustee; Joe L. Bourne, lay leader; anthem by the choir and presentation of gifts by the Sunday school children. The new structure will be between the church and the parsonage on Jef ferson street.
