Grain Market Hits Snag After Day of Advanc CHICAGO, April 20 -(JP)- The Srain market ran into trouble to ay after staging the best single day s advance in several weeks during early dealings. Profit-tak In in wheat and a heavy outpour tng of cash corn cut down the gains, leaving the market with a ragged appearance at the close. Only deliveries with any real strength left at the final gong were the new crop wheat futures. They held fractional gains, which was not much in comparison with advances of more than 2 cents during the morning. Pessimistic crop reports encouraged buying of these futures. Wheat closed 1 lower to higher, com was 4 lower to higher, oats were Vt-Vt lower, foy beans were unchanged to Vi wer and lard was unchanged to 0 cents a hundred pounds higher. May wheat experienced an early boom, moving up to a new high since January 13 at $2 .28 V. At that point short-covering dried up and May quickly reversed it- Glf. It fell nearly S cents from i high. Trade reports the gov ernment would accept cash wheat grading No. S hard caused some early buying. PORTLAND, April 2W;P)-A hearing of the $3,000,000 suit filed by 178 fanners against Reynolds Metals company's Troutdale alum inum plant was continued today to April 27. J Mc r trc3 Stock Drops Following Deal NEW YORK, April 20 -(JP) American Telephone At Telegraph common stock, and a couple of o tner issues, provided the action in today's stock market. The run -of-the-market didnt do much of- anything. Price changes were small with declines outweighing gains. Numerous isues bounced back, and forth be tween plus and minus territory. AT&T dropped to a net loss of IS points at 144 following stockholder approval of the big gest financial deal in the history of private industry. The final price was only a point from the 1949 low of 143 which in turn was a low since 1943. Several substantial blocks of the big communications company's stock changed hands, including one of 4,500 snares. Stockholders approved a plan for raising $395,000,000 by sale to stockholders of debentures which could be converted into capital stock. Issuance of addi tional capital stock, of course, would dilute the equity of present stockholders. The Associated Press average of 80 stocks dipped .2 of one point to 83.5, equal to the low point of the month established on April 1. The industrial component took the widest swing with a loss of .4 of one points at 88.8. Utilities were a trifle lower and rails up bit. Of the 987 issues which trad ed, 414 lost ground and 278 ad vanced. " Salem Obituaries BIOWN Pvt. Raymond I. Brown, former res ident of Amity. Sept. I. 144, at Sosse. Belgium. Survived by mother.
