M ' I I I I I Women's Qub Pl&ns Detroit Library Work DETROIT The Women'i Civic Club met at the home of Mrs. Ray Johnson on Wednesday evening with 13 members present. Mrs. Johnson, vice president, conducted the business meeting. A nominating committee consist ing of Mrs. S. T. Moore. Mri. Earl Parker and Mrs. J. A. Wright was appointed. Delegates elected to the County Federation of Women's clubs at Macleay April 22 were Mrs. Ray Johnson, Mr. Archie Mattoon and Mrs. Earl Parker. Plans were discussed for clean ing the library and getting some more books after which the library will be opened "in the old grade school building. Refreshments were served by jMrs. Ray Johnson, Mrs. John" Weisgerber and Mrs. Nolan Raz nick. The next meeting will be April j 20 at the home of Mrs. S. T. Wright was re-elected president and Gil Schachtsick, secretary. New three-year direct ors are Mrs. Sue Tuel, Mrs. Marie Freres and Edward J. Bell. Hold over directors re Ernest Dozler, Roy Philippi and John Christen sen, one-year; L. H. Wright, Har old Pendleton and Gil Schacht sick, two-year. Sponsorship of concessions for the festival by the various organi zations was agreed upon, with rides to be brought in. Further plans will be made at another meeting of the committee soon for this year's festival and work of starting a new building which will be a civic recreation center, on land which the association bought last year on First street. Jorgensens Visit Mother at Gervais ! GERVAIS Lawrence and El mer Jorgensen of Seattle, Wash., spent Sunday with their mother. Mrs. Chris L. Jorgensen, who un derwent an operation at a Salem hospital last week, and is now at Woodburn hospital. Mrs. Michael Conway and Mrs. Mark Snow of Portland spent last Wednesday visiting their sister, Mrs. J. E. Cutsforth. David L. St. John is again con fined to his bed due to a blood clot in his leg. John Walsh is announcing a full pro gram for Holy Week at St. Paul's Catholic church. Silverton, start ing with the Blessing? of Palms, their distribution and i procession at the 8 o'clock Sunday morning mass. Wednesday night devotions are at 7:45 with the sermon by Father Gelinias, chaplain at the state in stitutions, concluding a series of seven sermons on the Ten Com mandments. On Holy. Thursday there will be mas at 8 a.m., Adoration all day. concluding with Holy Hour from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Good Friday services are announced for 8 a.m., keeping of the last hour. 2 to 3 p.m. with the "Seven Last Words" and stations of the Cross at 7:45. Holy Saturday ceremonies begin at 8 a.m. Easter Sunday masses will be held at 6:30, 8 and 10 a.m. The children's choir will sing the 8 o'clock mass with high mass by the senior schola, the first high ! mass to be sung by the new (adult choir. MITCHELL RECOVEftING Perry dale Robert Mitchell who suffered a severe heart attack at the Sacred Heart hospital Ls Eu gene while visiting his son, is slowly improving but will be there for several weeks yet. Mrs. Mitchell stayed for 1Q days and i now divides her time between Eugene and her home here. at the Jefferson Fire Group to Baek Baseball Team JEFFERSON The Jefferson volunteer fire department voted Tuesday to sponsor the Jefferson baseball club this season. Wallace Wickett was named playing man ager and announced a meeting Sunday, April 9, to line up play ers and to organize a league of nearby towns. New members admitted to the department were Wickett and Bob Magart. President George Rich ardson stressed the importance .of increasing interest and member ship in view of the need for city fire department expansion, and the summer projects being plan ned. The next meeting will be April 19. Steve Wall of Eugene was a Sunday guest of his brother. Harry Wall. At the Tuesday night meeting of Mt. Jefferson Rebekabs. a dele gation from Salem LAPM paid an official visit. Nettie Hawk and Lizzie Mills were elected dele gates to the assembly at Nortn I Bend, with Lavina Cochran and Ada Wells, alternates. Mrs. Coch ran was recommended for dist rict deputy president. A Theta Rho girls' club, sponsored by Re bekah and IOOF lodges, will be instituted Saturday afternoon. April 16. The advisory board named is Keithel Smith, Lona Armstrong. Lillian Smith. Velma Higgins and Carrie Swanzy. Re freshments were served to 42 members and eight guests by the committee, Bernice Skelton, Alayne Hall, Laura and Kloi Thomas and Ida Hartley. Hugh Bilyeu is home from the Albany hospital. Mrs. Maud Epley is home from the hospital but remains in bed.
