Marion County Tubercu losis and Health association and Marion ounty health department. Because about 1.500 missed their appointed X-rays during a 2';j day breakdown of the mobile ma- chine last week, the X-rav ma chine will return to Salem rn June 15jand 16. This will be for the benefit of those who had ap pointments but werse skipped, said Mrs. R$by Bunnell, executive secretary of the health and tu berculosis association. The campaign was completed at Salem high school Monday and Tuesday; The machine will be in Salem again next week on April 13 and 14 to take enlarged X-rays of about, 170 already snapped in the current program but who e piates were faulty or require closer examination. This survey will be held in the i Salem Memorial hospital chapef, room ore Oak street instead of at j the First Methodist church as has been previously announced, Mrs. Bunnell said. i The number of X-rays taken in I this year's survey nearly equalled ; that of last year's program, Mrs. Bunnell ;said. Anthony Caliandro, a native Italian, will peak at a triads meeting Thursday at 8 p m. at First Evangelical United Breth- n church, Marion and Summer streets. , . , , Caliandro received his training in American schools and is the founder of the Fellowship of the Reiorrnat ion movement in naiy. His subject will be "The Possible Reformation in Italy." His coming to the west coast is largely due to the el forts of Dr. Paul Petticord, Oregon district EUB superintendent, who met Caliandro in Italy last summer. West Coast Governors to Meet Thursday Governors Arthur B. Langlie of Washington, Earl Warren of Cali fornia and Douglas McKay of Ore gon will attend a meeting in Port land Thursday of the Pacific coast board of intergovernmental rela tions. Also attending will be other state, federal, county and city of ficials of the three states. Speakers at the meeting, which will last during the one d;i, in clude: Governors Warren and Langlie; Mayor WHliam Devin of Seattle; Washington State Tax Commis sioner Thomas Hedges; Colonel Theron D. Weaver, division army engineer at Portland; and Oregon State Unemployment Compensa tion Commissioner T. Morris Dunne. Among subjects to be discussed are conservation, unemployment, power, population growth, and in- i come. Portland Man Denied Writ From Hospital A writ of habeas corpus and a plea for freedom from the Oregon state hospital were denied a Portland man Tuesday by order of Marion County Circuit Judge E. M. Page. Judge Paige ruled that Verne L. Rathkey. Portland electrician, was "lawfully committed'' to the state hospital on order of Mult nomah county circuit court in 1941. The order also dismissed the writ. Rathfkey had petitioned the court for his release on the grounds that it never was and is not now dangerous for him to be at large. Ae also alleged that he is not being detained by any com petent tribunal. The petition was heard by Judge Page on March 8 Judge Page found that Rathkey is "mentally ill to a degree that he is not able to understand the pro- ceeoins or assi&i in ins urinise . . . .and should not be discharged from the state hospital." IT'S GOOD. I Oregon Baldock Defends Traffic Proposal at Jaycee Meeting State Highway Engineer R. H. Baldock said Tuesday his pro posed traffic program for Salem was based on the greatest benefit to the people, was a proven sys tem and was a prudent use of ! public funds. Jerry Scott to Leave Scout Office Here Jerry Scott of Salem, field exec utive of the Cascade area Boy Scout council for the past two years, has accepted a transfer to the Inland Empire council in east ern Washington, it was announced here Tuesday. Scott's promotion will take him to Colfax April 15 where he will assume duties similar to those he has here. He will, however, hve charge of a larger territory, with council healquarters in Spokane. "We are sorry to lose Scott," said Scout Executive Gordon Gilmore in announcing the chacnge. "He has done an outstanding job with the scouts in this area."
