Clearing for Stayton Street Project Starts STAYTON With title to all land necessary for the widening of Locust street having been ac quired, work of clearing the right- of-way was begun last week. Now that the: location of the new union nigh school building has definitely been established, widening of the street has added significance. The street lights, which the Mountain States Power company will soon Install' In the business district on Third street, will give three times as much light, as the present ones, according to Coun cilman Walter X Frey, chairman of the street committee. Ireland Motif At OES Meet STAYTON A bit of old Ire land came to the Eastern Star meeting Tuesday night as a visitor was guided to the different sta tions for a message. Other pro gram numbers were Irish songs by Kay Cunningham and two tap dance numbers by little Connie Kimsey and Suzanne Schiewe, ac companied by Mrs. Myrtle Arnold. Coming from the Turner and Mill City chapters for a practice in preparation for the district meeting on April S were officers of those lodges. Scout Charter Filed at Meet HAZEL GREEN Committee members of .Troop 67 met at the school Monday evening to file a new charter. There are IS scouts enrolled. Otis Phillips, sr., chairman, Ed Hynes. secretary - treasurer, N. H. Rossou, Orval Klampe, Paul Richard, J. L. McDonald and L. E. Bowlsby were elected on scout committee. Can didates for membership are chisen by the faculty on the basis of outstanding records in scholar ship, service, leadership and character. Catholic Group Plans Cub Pack For Silverton SILVERTON M. B. Ford, I. Alfred and Harry Vetter met with a parent group at St. Paul's Cath olic parish hall Friday night to discuss organization of a Cub pack. A Girl Scout troop is also being planned. At the Cub Pack 52 meeting Fri day night, a picture, "The Cub Scout in the Home, was shown by Craig Clark, cubmaster. Awards included: Bob Cat pins to Craig Clark, jr., Monte Reiling. and Delbert Weeks; chief shoujder cord, Herbert Starkey; wolf badge. Wade Bentson; bear badge, Russell Blake; one year gold star, Ronald Spencer. Clark announced the Indian mo tif for April, and asked the boys to obtain Indian costumes for the meeting. Husselmans Have 60th Anniversary At Auburn Home AUBURN Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Husselman celebrated their 60th anniversary with an open house at their home Sunday. Hostesses were Mrs. Henry Hanson, Mrs. Arthur Stowell, Mrs. Hugh Williams and Mrs. Stuart Johns. The serving table was cen tered with a large bouquet of car nations and sweetpeas flanked with pink tapers. There were 41 guests served.
