I Brownie Scouts Sell 300 Dozen Cookies for Cash FOUR CORNERS The Brown ie troop now has a membership of 18 members. Under the leader ship of Mrs. Robert Burns and Mrs. Francis Miller the troop has shown a steady growth. Meeting Jtime next week will be devoted to delivering the more than 300 dozen cookies, members have sold and on which they will receive a percentage. Twila Rickman is a new Brown ie member. Denice Miller was re ported ilL The next meeting will be February 22 at the Community hall. Girl Scouts troop 42 will take -part in the scouts 'Sing and Swing' at Veterans of Foreign Wars hall Friday, February 11 at 3:30 pjn. Bethel Pie Social Is Feature of FU Meeting BETHEL A pie social and program were special features at the Bethel local of the Farmers Union meeting Monday night. Pro ceeds will be used in the work of the organization. A. L. Schulz was auctioneer. Russell Solle and Alden Cole of Macleay played violin and guitar selections and played their own accompaniments for a number of songs. In charge of the serving were Mrs. George Hain and Mrs. Clifford Chaffee. The new president Roy March and conducted the business meet ing with Mrs. Charles Sapping field assisting as secretary. Mrs. J. G. Lauderback: led group singing with Mrs. A- L. Schulz at the piano. W. L. Creech reported on the annual meeting of the Mt. Angel Oil Co. and discussed commercial fertilizers. W. R. Baker, Gus Schlicker, A. C. Spranger and Roy Marchand gave reports on the Farmers Union convention. Schlicker and Baker discussed the bills of interest to the group which are now before the legislature. The first weight - driven clock was invented during the Middle Ages. Liberty Mr. and Mrs. John Haskins celebrated their twenty fifth wedding anniversary with a dinner Wednesday. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. George Newton, Lauelee and Dvid, Hazel Newton of Eugene. Hubbard The Firemen are sponsoring a ' benefit Valentine dance, Saturday night, February 12, at the city halL Marion Forks Folk On Portland Trip MARION FORKS Mrs. Scott Young and daughter Mrs. Vera Morgan spent the greater part of last week in Portland on busteess and visited Robert Young. He is driving truck and carry all re building dike in the Columbia river area. Howard Tidrick and Floyd Green of Portland braved the storm and came up for work in connection with the new fish hatchery to be built here. Not finding a place to work they re turned with a few pencil marks on their memo book. Recently Mr. and Mrs. Walter Martin and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Heinsohn of Santiam Junction visited friends here. The Detroit Ranger S. T. Moore and crew have been feeding the stranded deer in this locality and on the Breitenbush. Communities Sponsor Paper Drive Tuesday ".
