Several of the children in the
community are confined to their
home with the measles and flu
and colds are quite numerous
among the adults.

Oub Convenes
SALEM HEIGHTS Thirty-six
mothers attended the Mothers
club meeting Tuesday at the
school lunchroom with Mrs, Lyle
Bayne presiding.
Reports were made on the pro
gress of the Camp Fire Girls and
the Chickadees. A note of thanks
from the Turnidge Boys home for
the Christmas gift was read.. Final
plans were made for the chicken
dinner to beheld by the club on
February 18.
The program was given by the
children. Third grade presented
'The Rabbit Lunch" song and a
dutch dance; fourth, grade sang
the -Skaters Waltz," and "Ameri
ca the Beautiful" with pictures;
sixth, questions and answers and
ways of displaying the American

-Swing Low. Sweet Charier' and
"Go Down. Moses"; eighth gave
a health skit under the direction
of Fred Butler.
Mrs. George Beane was hostess
assisted by fifth grade mothers.

who died unexpectedly early

Born March 18, 1889, he came
to Mt. Angel in 1902 and had
lived in or near here ever since.
He had farmed until the last year
$nd recently had been working
it the college dairy.
He was married in Mt Angel
to Catherine Schaeffer who sur
vives, also five children. They
are Rose Vandecoerverin& Mt
Angel; Margaret of Verboort,
Raymond of Springfield and Rob
art and Derrel at home.
Nancy Burkhart
ALBANY Mrs. Nancy Burk-
tart, 93, a resident of Oregon for
7 years, died here February 8
after long Illness. Funeral serv
ices wehe held Thursday, Febr

officiating, burial in Riverside.
Born in Unionville, Mo., Jan.
9. 1858, she came to Oregon in
882. While the immigrant party
was camped along the Platte river
a band of Indians appeared, stam
peding the cattle, and little Nancy
Was almost killed by the fleeing
animals. Upon arriving in Oregon
the Cooper family located at The
palles, from there moving to
Lebanon in 1868, and four years
later moved to Albany where the
deceased had since resided.
On March 31, 1872, Nancy Coop
ir married George W. Burkhart
n Albany. Burkhart died Feb. 1,
90S. Mrs. Burkhart joined the
Jnited Presbyterian church In
884.
Survivors are a daughter, HetUe
, Burkhart and a brother, Harry
Cooper, both of Albany.
