Leonard Roth was elected presi dent; Henry Beutler, vice presi dent; Mrs. Homer Welty, secre tary; Mrs. Grover Welty, assistant secretary. Social chairmen are Mrs. Leonard Roth, Grover Welty and Edgar Nafziger. Game committee members are Mrs. Buller, Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Gydesen; refreshment com mittee, Mrs. L. Roth, Mrs. Grover Welty and Mrs. Gerig. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Nor man Gydesen, Mr. and Mrs. George Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Polk County Health Is Topic at PTA Meetiirg PEDEE, Jan. 31 Dr. Carlyle Thompson of the Oregon State board of Health was the speaker at the Polk county Parent Teach ers association council meeting in Monmouth last week. A more com plete health service for Polk coun ty was discussed. Election of officers will be held Thursday. March 31 when mem- bers meet 'at Independence high schooL Reports of the president will be given at that time. Half Fires in Rural Area, Stayton Reports Indicate Edina Lane Unit Meets Friday with Mrs. Welch Twenty-three guests and mem fcers of the Edina Lane Extension Unit met with Mrs. Sam Welsh, 1 Vaughn street January 28. Ritner, (Mollie Talley) are the parents of a son, Scotty Joe, born January 24 at Salem General hospital. Older brothers are Lynn and Terry. Mrs.- Ritner and the children are with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Talley of Corvallis. Mr. and Mrs.- Lyle Stuwe (Helen Dodge) of Oakland, Ore., are the parents of a son, Gale Boyd, born January 25. This is the third child and second son. He was born on the birthday of the maternal grandfather, Rufus Dodge. STAYTON Annual 'report fo Stayton Fire department compile by Edward J. Belli" secretary, shows 30 calls made in 1948, 18 of them rural and 14 city; calls. Value of property f comprising the rural calls was $93,000 and an average of nine firemen at tended all calls. Approximate loss in these calls was $24,700 and the major loss was the Hitchman saw mill fire which was outside of the rural district. Six of the rural fires were for grass or slashing fires, out of con trol; one caterpillar fire; one flue fire, and the balance; were resi dential, barn and business build ing fires. Value of property comprising the city calls was approximately $36,500. An average of ten fire men attended city calls which in cluded eight flue fires, one auto fire, one truck fire, twp grass fires. and the balance business build- ings. 1 The two major fires in town Schneider Named By Hospital Staff Dr. H. O. Schneider has been reelected to his second term as president of the Salem Memorial hospital medical staff; the hospit al announced Monday. Other staff officer: elected at the annual meeting last week in clude as vice-president, Dr. H. E. Poole, succeeding Dr. L. D. Clark; and secretary-treasurer, Dr. W. H. Needham, succeeding ; Dr. R. F. Wolf. Named to the executive commit tee are Dri R. H. Upjohn, Dr. Clark and Dr. J. M. Ramage. Last year's committee consisted of Dr. F. H. Thompson, Dr. Poole and Dr. R. P. Anderson. From funds accumulated in the operation of eating stands during Santiam Bean Festivals, the fire men have purchased and equipped a new first aid ambulance which is also used as a salvage car. Dur ing 1948 more than 20 aid calls were answered with this equpi ment. Equipment in the Stayton fire department manned by Stayton firemen includes the city pumper, rural pumper, first aid ambulance and salvage truck. The firemen have constructed and maintain their own meeting room and quar ters in the Stayton city hall. An active part has been taken by the firemen in the Marion County Firemen's association and the Central Willamette Valley Fire Fighters association.
