Herbert Smith and her attractive coed .daughter, Sally, entertained informally at tea for Mrs. Robert X. Guild, the former Paulie Wal lace, who is here during the holi days from Madison. Wis. . . . The hostesses both choosing black tea frocks . . the honor guest in dove grey wool with narrow braid trim and her mother, Mrs. Paul Wallace, wearing black crepe . . . Mother and daughter ... so nice to see so many coming in . . . together . . many of the girls home from college . . Among them . . . Mrs. Robert ELfstrom and Patricia . . . the latter open ing the door and wearing a be coming rose pink taffeta frock -. . . Mrs. Tinkham Gilbert and Alcetta, who was at the door later in the afternoon and wearing black . . . Mrs. Hollis Huntington and Cryst al, who was chic in a brown en semble with champagne satin trim ... Mrs. L. C. McLeod and Irene, who wore brown with a laid jacket . . . Mrs. Richard A. leyer smartly dressed in a gun metal grey suit with soft pink satin chapeau . . . her daughter, Roberta, serving in the dining room. Still more . . . Mrs. George Alex ander and Charlotte in a pretty black tea frock with low .rounded neckline and rhinestone choker . . . her sister, Mrs. Edward O. Stadter, jr. in black with a shortie pink box coat . . . Mrs. John Car son and Jane ... Mrs. Arthur Bates and Barbara . . . Mrs. Karl Becke attractive in a Christmas red outfit with matching hat with her two daughters, Marjorie, in black taffeta and Mrs. William Shinn . . . Mrs. Francis Wade and Corinne, who was receiving con- fratulations on announcement of er recent engagement . . . Corinne attractive in a brown figured taf feta frock . . . Best wishes also to newly engaged Pauline Morse, who received her diamond on Monday . . . she was wearing a pretty garnet red crepe frock with tiered skirt ... Mrs. W. Wells Baum and Frances . . . Mrs. Henry Compton and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Stuart Compton . . . and dozens more ... The decor . . . An all white tea table . . . the centerpiece of snap dragons, carnations and narcissus flanked by white tapers in crystal eandelabras ... A stunning bou quet ' of American Beauty roses n the piano ... a wreath tied with red bow above the mantle and at one end a musical shrine which plays carols ... a gift to Margie and Sally Smith from their parents . . . Margie who as sisted in the dining room, wore a becoming brown taffeta dress . . . WELCOME HOME ... for Mrs. Jerome Simkins. who returned to Salem in November from south ern California, where the family has been living for several years . . . They have now purchased a country place ten miles out on the Liberty road . . . To' honor Mrs. Simkins was the delightful in formal tea on Tuesday for which Mrs. Donald A. Young was hostess at her Fairmount Hill home . . . Guests serving themselves In the dining room where Mrs. Lawrence Goss of Stayton poured . . . dainty white lace Christmas trees with tiny gold balls and altar candles the centerpiece . . . the trees, which Mrs. Young made, always a tradition and used each year in decorating ... Unusual . . . the large decorated tree in the hallway, extending clear to the top of the stairs . . . the tree adorned with large blue green balls, and silver star re flectors, fans of varied sizes, a few maribou feathers and at the tree top a cluster, of fancy jeweled comb . . . red and green streamers extending from top to bottom . . . and a clever wood block base, painted with gay figures and de signs by Mrs. Young . . . Sleigh bells ringing as the door opened . . . Handsome gold eandelabras with chartreuse tapers and colored balls on the piano . . . The mantle festive with the lace trees and pale green altar candles ... a cluster of silver bells arranged on one side of the mirror . . . and flanking ihe fireplace on the floor were two figures, "Joy and Jolly," on stands of silver bells and tinsel. About the guests . . . Mrs. Simk ins wearing a good-looking gun metal grey suit and hat . . . Mrs. Carl Nelson's smart continental green suit highlighted with aliga tor hat and purse . . . Mrs. Fred Moxley thrilled at having just talked to her daughter and hus band, John and Edith Miller, who live In Columbus, Ohio . . . Mrs. Robert L. Jones, who enjoyed Christmas skiing at Mt. Hood and the festive parties at Timberline Lodge, smart in a black tulip wool dress with winter white hat adorn ed with a large flower at the side. Donna Kletzing Tells Betrothal INDEPENDENCE On Christ mas eve the engagnnent of Miss Donna Kletzing, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kletzing, to Will iam M. Addison, son of Mr. and Mrs. EL E. Addison, all of Independence was revealed. No date has been set for the wed ding. The couple attended Independ ence schools, - graduating in 1946. Miss Kletzing is a junior at the University of Oregon and is affili ated with Chi Omega sorority. Her fiance entered the University this fall, after serving 18 months in the navy. He is a pledge of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
