A bride of Christmas afternoon will be Miss Virginia Covert, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Covert, who will be married to Dorance Humphrey of San Francis co, son of Mr. and Mrs. I. A. Humphrey of Salem. The cer emony, to which only members of the immediate family will attend, will be held in the Carrier room of the First Methodist church at 4:30 o'clock with Dr. Daniel Schulze officiating. The fireplace mantle will be decorated with ar rangements of Christmas greens, white chrysanthemum! and tapers. The bride, who will be given in marriage by her fath er, has selected a forest green gabardine dressmaker suit for her wedding. Her pearl grey hat is embellished with a band of bronze and white pearls and her accessories are black. She will carry debutante camellias and bouvardia. Miss Grace Covert came north from San Francisco to be with her only sister's attendant. She will wear a black faille suit with fuchsia hat and black accessories. Her cor sage will be of pink carnations. Samuel Tripp will serve as best man for Mr. Humphrey. Mrs. Covert will wear a plum crepe gown for her daughter's nuptials with green hat and black accessories. Mrs. Humphrey will attend her son's marriage in a slate blue gown with pink hat and black accessories. Their cor sages will be of camellias and bouvardia. A reception for the guests will follow the ceremony. Mrs. Cora V. Hunt of Dallas, aunt of the bride, will pour and Miss Jessie Heath will serve the ices. Mr. Humphrey and his bride will entrain tonight for San Francisco, where they will make their home. Celebrating the holiday began on Christmas eve wth trea and dinner parties, followed by family breakfasts this morning and later in the day larger family dinners. Relatives have come from coast to coast this vear to spend the holiday season with their parents and families. Still other family celebrations will take pjace o Sunday, the double holiday making it possible for some to join other members of the fam ily during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Robert V. Gormsen were hosts for a Christmas eve buffet supper fof his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Gormsen and William Murray of Spokane, Mr. and Mrs; Pm bert E. Guild of Madison. Wis., Miss Edna L. Sterling of Seattle, and Mr. and Mri.' Paul B. Wallace. Today Mr. and Mrs. Wallace will be hosts to the same group at a family dinne at their Wallace Orchards home. At a pretty Christmas ceremony on Friday afternoon the North Winter street home of her mother, Mrs. George Lewis, Miss Barbara Lewis, became the bride of Lewis Al fred Aplington, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Aplington of Portland, former Salem residents. The 2 o'cUx-k nuptials were performed by the Rev. A. J. Cordon befoie the fireplace banked with poinsettias, red and white carnations. Chrislmas greens and white tapers. Mrs. E. J. Kortzebotn sang and Miss Coral Gordon was the ac companist and played the wedding music. Minor Lewi-; gave his niece in marriage and for her wedding she wore a white marquisette gown with deep yoke on the bodice edged with wide ruffle The full skirt was en hanced with a ruffle at the hemline. A seed pearl and orange blossom coronet held in place her fingertip length veil. She carried a pastel nosegay. Mrs. Samuel R. Orr (Florence Lewis) of Portland was her sister's only attendant and she wore a flame marquis ette frock and carried a gold fan with a spray of white car nations. Herbert Aplington stood with his brother as best man For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Lewis wore a deep blue afternoon dress and Mis. Aplington's gown was ol grey. Their corsages were of white roses. Large Reception Follows J or !iP The receptiqn. to which additional guests were bidden, followed the nuptials. Dr. Samuel Orr played piano num bers during the altnnoon. Mrs. P. L. Frazier, grandmother of the groom, presided at the punch bowl and Mrs. Otto Shurtz of Redwood City, Calif., aunt of the bride, cut the cake.
