I. Mickey and Clifford Jensen as hosts. Mrs. Carl Launer visited her sister, Mrs. Lou Howe, in Albany Wednesday, who recently under went surgery. She has recovered satisfactorily from the operation Mrs. Carrie Penrose spent sev eral days last week during the high water on Grand Island at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Nelson in Salem. She returned to the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stoutenburg, Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Worth Wiley and Don of Grand Island motored to Astoria Sunday where they visit ed his cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Al Mather. On the way home they stopped at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Hein in Portland. Mrs. Lulu Rockhill visited rela tives in Sweet Home Monday and Tuesday of last week. Myrtle Rockhill and her room mate at Cascade college. Miss June Herhardt spent the weekend at the Rockhill home. The Misses Myrtle and Iva will spend the Christmas vacation at their home here, returning to Portland Jan. 3. A large number of Grand Island and Unionvale patrons of Blue Lake cannery in Salem attended the annual meeting held in the Veterans hall in Salem Monday. I Stayton Red Cross Ends School Term STAYTON With Mrs. Rufina Silbernagel, R. N., Stayton, as nurse-instructor, the American Red Cross has concluded a course in "home nursing in high schools" in the Turner, Aumsville and Mill City schools. Sessions were con ducted bi-weekly from October 11 to December 23. Liberty - - 'i Valley Obituaries Mrs. Mabel Silk ALBANY, Dec. 24 (Special) Mrs. Mabel Silk, 53, of this city, died today in a Portland hospital. She had been hospitalized for a week after an illness of three years. She was bora Feb. 24, 1893, in Redwood Falls, Minn., and was married there on Dec. 24, 1914 to Graham Silk. The couple came to Portland in 1916 and lived there one year. Since Mrs- Silk had liv ed in Albany. She was a member of the First Christian church here. Survivors Include two children. Mrs. Monte Kropt, Albany and Shirley Silk, San Francisco; two brothers Floyd McDaniel, Cascade Locks and Charles McDaniel, Rock ford, 111.," a sister Mrs. Irene Tay lor, Portland and two grandchil dren, Richard and Jo Ellen Kropt, Albany. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. In the Fisher funeral home here, the Rev. Orville Mick officiating with interment in Willamette Memorial park. Santa Clans in Stayton Saturday; Kiddies Get Gifts STAYTON The man with the whiskers and the red suit paid his annual visit to the children of Stayton at the free Christmas matinee provided by the Star theatre and the Stayton Lions club Saturday. Capacity of the theatre was taxed with more than 700 child ren attending the show which was run twice with one at 1 p.m. and the other at 3 p.m. Roy Rogers in "Rainbow Over Texas was the feature and there was also an Edgar Kennedy comedy "Trouble or Nothing and a Walt Disney cartoon. The treats were soon given out and it was necessary to open cartons of candy bars and give them out. Small kiddies greeted Santa Claus and one small tike was heard to ask Santa, "How'd you come to come to Stayton?" Harry Rowe was the man. Lions members assisting were Lindsey H. Wright, Norman Peek, Marc Landon and Irvin Parberry, and M. Van Driesche and Mr. and J Unionvale Church Group Has Party UNIONVALE The Ladies Aid Society of the Unionvale Evangeli cal United Brethren church held its annual Christmas party in conjunc tion with their regular meeting at the church Tuesday. The day was spent quilting with exchange of gifts held in the afternoon. Mrs. Matt Warren is president of the society. Alderman Farms fourth annual Christmas party was held in the gymnasium of the Unionvale church Tuesday night. Employees and their families attended mov ing pictures taken during the bean harvest shown by Mrs. Dor othy Milder of McMinnville. Mr. Alderman presented each employe with a ham or fruit cake as a Christmas lgift. Mr. and Mrs. Moser and daugh ter, Diane, of Osborn road are vis iting at the home of his parents at Manchester, Iowa, over the holidays. Mr. and Mrs- Loran Richey and sons, Leland and Paul, motored to Vancouver, Wash, to spend Christ mas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Sawyer. Mr. and Mrs. Arlo McLain and sons spent Christmas day and the week end in Corvallls at the home of his brother, George McLain and family. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hanson had Christmas dinner at the Ramberg home in Canby. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Williams were in Salem for the day at the Glen Fisher home on Grant st.
