Dcrnbt 23, 1948 37 Precinct Committee: Posts Unfilled as Official List Given A total of 37 precinct committee posts remain to be filleq in demo cratic and republican parties in Marion county, County Clerk Harlan Judd said this week. ) In the republican camp eight precinct committeewomei) and two committeemen are needed to complete the party's representation in the county's 92 precincts. Democrats lack 13 women and 14 men to fill out the party pre cinct roster. The vacancies are to be filled by appointment by each party's central committee Judd said. Republican precinct committee women are lacking in Englewood, Macleay. Pringle, Salem 3, 27 and 16, Scotts Mills and West Stayton precincts. Precincts which need men are Scollard and North Sil verton. The democrats need women in Macleay, Salem 1, 3, 19, 21, 25, 34 and 35. East Salem, North Silver ton, Waconda and Claggett. Demo cratic males are needed in Mac leay, Salem 3, 5, 11; 16, 1Z, 18, 23, 25, 29 and 30, Scollard, West Stayton and East Woodburn. Grand Ronde Men Held on Theft Charge Two Grand Ronde men were nabbed by Portland's police check detail in Portland Wednesday on a charge of attempting to pass a check burglarized from the Mid way Lumber Co., Valley Junction, Tuesday night. The pair was identified as Leroy Darl Southard, 20, and Lyman Cal land Bigelow, 21, by state police. The lumber company office was broken into Tuesday night and a typewriter, adding machine, and about 100 blank checks were stol en. Most of the checks had already been signed in preparation for pay day Wednesday Loot, including the blank checks, was recovered. The checks were located by state police in a stove and toilet at Valley Junction. State police said that a Portland store tipped off that attempts might be made to pass the spurious checks rang the burglar alarm when two men offered the stolen checks. Wheaf closed lower to 45i hig her, corn was '4 lower to ,B higher; oats were 1 lower to 5l higher, rye was 'i-34 higher and lard was 27 cents to $1.52 a hundred punds lower. Most spectacular close was made by December oats. At 50 cents it was only 5'i cents under the sea sonal peak. With the exception of December contracts, dealings were quiet throughout the session. Settlement of all December contracts which now remain open must be made by delivery of the actual cash com modity. The Economic Cooperation Ad ministration announced it had authorized $60,711,000 for wheat shipment during the first three months of 1949. Italy got the larg est amount $45,470,000. Turnover remained at an even 1,000,000 shares for,- the second day in a row. and the same rate at which business has been run ning recently. The Associated Press average of 60 stocks advanced .1 of one point to 64.2. Of the 1,037 issues which changed hands, 376 declined and 358 advanced.
