dent. He succeeds Theodore B.
Wilcox, who has headed, the show
organization for 18 years.
Wilcox became chairman of the
board.
The Board said expenses re
sulting from the Columbia river
flood were $46,755 and put the
exposition in the "red" for the
year. The amount was not an
nounced. The past season's exposition
drew the largest crowds of rec
ord and brought the largest in
come. Frank Brown of Carlton was
elected a vice president, Walter
Holt was retained as general manager.

Needy Persons
Plans for the annual Christmas
activities of Salem lodge, BPO
Elks No. 336 are complete with a
basement full of clothes ready to
be given to needy persons this
week end and a Christmas party
for 1,000 children December 24.
Racks full of men, women and
children's clothing and garments
re to be given to any needy per
sons this Friday, Saturday and
Monday. Every type of clothing is
represented and has been cleaned,
pressed and readied for distribu
tion. Friday morning, December
24, a special Christmas show will
be .held at the Capitol theater for
bout 1,000 children- After the

New Legion Post
Salem post 136, American Legion,
will inaugurate an annual ''Past
Commanders' nieht" December 27
at Legion hall with a special din
ner for former leaders and an en
tertainment program for the entire
post membership.
The announcements of the event
came from Commander Homer
Smith, jr., in a meeting of the post
earlier this week. Past command
ers to be honored i.ie Joseph Fel
ton, Chester Fritz, Don Goode and
Tryone Gillespie.
The past commanders' dinner
will open the program. Entertain
ment, initiations and a special sur
prise program will follow.
