Gregg to Speak to
Phi Beta Kappas
Invitations are in the mail from'
the members of the Central Will-!
amette Valley association of Phi
Beta Kappa to the annual observ
ance of its founding in 1776 at the
College of William and Mary in
Virginia to be held at 'eight o'clock
ship society, the oldest of the
Saturday. This honorary scholar
Greek letter fraternities, strives to
maintain high standards in higher
education.
Dr. Robert Gregg, dean of the
Willamette college of liberal arts,
will address the members and their
guests on the topic, "China in Tur
motl." Dr. Gregg holds degrees
from Oberlin. the University of
Michigan and Johns Hopkins. He
was head of the history depart
ment at the Carnegie Institute of
Technology for several years, he
has traveled in Europe, the near
East,, the Caribbean and Mexico.
He is an authority on Mexican-
American relations and has spoken
frequently on international affairs.
Dr. Norman Huffman, president
of the Willamette PBK association,
announces a music program by
Professor Ralph Dobbs of Willam
ette preceding the address and a
reception for guests afterward,
All members of Phi Beta Kappa
are invited to attend.

Baxter Hall on the Willamette j

Miss Currey,
Is Visitor
An Interesting visitor in town
is Miss Carol Currey, who is
spending a 60-day leave from her
duties with the office, of the Am
erican consulate general at Mun
ich. Germany. She is spending the
Thanksgiving and Christmas hol
idays with her father Fred Cur
rey and her sister, Mrs. Thomas
Wood. ,
Miss Currey has been in Munich
for the past two and a half years,
having flown there when the first
military government was set up.
She spent two years in Hawaii. 12
years in China and Japan and la
ter spent two years working for
the state here. She then went to
Washington, D. C, where she was
with the department of state dur- 1
ing the war years.
Miss Currey came from Ger
many on the S. S. America and
following her stay here, will spend
a week of intensive work in Wash
ington, D. C, before returning to
Munich.
Book Fair to Be
At Church
A book fair will be held Wed
nesday afternoon beginning at one
o'clock, by members of the First
Congregational church's guild.
Hugh Morrow will display and
talk about books suitable for
Christmas giving. The fair is spon
sored by the Salem public library,
the state library is loaning a mo
tion picture, "It's All Yours" star
ring Ralph Belamy.
Mrs. Charles. Laport will review
the book, "The Sad Shepherd" by
Henry VanDyke. Mrs. Max Floh
rer will sing and will lead group
singing. Mrs. Ted Gordon will
accompany.
