MOTHERS DUOS... ,
Come the winter months and there is time for young
mothers and children to enjoy quiet afternoons around the
fireplace or in the den with their games and toys
storv telling at bedtime and exciting plans to be made for
Christmas and Santa Claus and other holidays to come. V.'c
have pictured here today a group of mothers with their
very young pre-school children.
Roland West, center circle, two-year son of Mr. and Mrs.
Roland E. West, has a big hug for his mother. His recrea-
tion definitely goes indoors for the winter after a summer in
: the playgrounds and swimming pool at their country place
': " east of Salem.
Jane Gail Sprague with her mother, Mrs. Arthur P.
Sprague, upper right photo. Jane is a year and a half and
their home is situated on Terrace Drive in King wood
Heights. The Spragues, who have been here nearly two
ears, came north from California.

ther works Susan attends kindergarten, but enjoy th'ir
evenings and weekends, and in the summer take vacation
trips together.

A group of college friends, who attended Willamette university, will be enter
i talned at an informal gathering Wednesday night at the home of Mrs. Richard Jones
i on North Winter street. A late supper will be served by the hostess, and arrangements

Tea To Honor President's Wife . .

The North 15th street home of Mrs. Floyd Bowers will be the scene of an infor
mal tea Monday afternoon when-members of the Salem Lions auxiliary entertain
ir honor of Mrs. Eugene S. Briggs of Enid, Oklahoma, wife of the president of Lions
international. Wives of Lions club members in Salem and vicinity and special guests
haye been bidden to the affair.' Calling hours are from 2 to 5 o'clock. Mrs. Monroe
Cheek and Mrs. Denver Young will greet guests at the door.
Mrs. L. J. Stewart and Mrs. Harry W; Scott will introduce to the line which will
include Mrs. Jacob Fuhrer, president of the auxiliary; Mrs. Briggs, the honor guest;
Mrs. Oliver Pesenon, Astoria, wife of the district governbr; Mrs. Merrill D. Ohhng,
wife of the deputy district governor; and Mrs. A. L. Crose, third vice-president of
the state auxiliary and a member of the Hollywood Lions auxiliary.
Mrs. Fred Halvarson and Mrs. Edward Majek are in charge of the living room
and Mrs. William Kimsey and Mrs.. George Rhoten will invite guests to the dining
room. Presiding at the tea urns will be Mrs. Robert Forkner, president of the Holly
wood Lions auxiliary; Mrs. Axel Jaeobsen, president of the Salem Lions auxiliary;
Mrs. Stanley Smith and Mrs. Glenn Weaver, immediate past president of the Salem
Lions auxiliary. Serving will be Mesdames L. Leslie Beard, Carroll Ford, Reginald
Williams, Evert Givens, Rollin Lewis and Virgil Golden.
Mrs. Wayne Doughton heads the directorate lor the affair and assisting are Mes
