YouH recognize in the partial list of members below the names of public spirited citizens who have devoted time and effort for years to build the kind of Salem in which we want to live. They are among those who can be counted on whenever there is a civic job to be done. Time after time, they have proved the seriousness and sin cerity of their interest in the future of Salem. Their opinions can not be bought. They do not make published recommen dations without careful study. ' They have taken the time to investigate the proposal of Salem Electric Because they believe it is a serious threat to Salem's future development they have devoted time, effort and money to present the facts to the voters of Salem. They oppose attempts to put over a perpetual power franchise' that would bar future opportunities now unforeseen . . . they oppose tax-exempt business that contributes nothing toward the support of Salem ; schools and other government functions . . they oppose granting a franchise to an organization that makes no guarantee of satisfactory service, that accepts no responsibility for Salem's development, that insists on the right to build electric lines if, when and only where it pleases. It is the earnest recommendation of these . . j your neighbors and friends . . . that you vote against the franchise and tax subsidy proposed by Salem Electric A. E.
