Golf and bridge were in play during the afternoon with award- ine of Drizes for the rear follow ins. A social hour preceded the butfet dinner and the day was climaxed with a skit presented by a group of the women. Mrs. Robert Joseph, chairman for the past year, awarded the prizes to the following: Oregon Women's Golf Association trophy, Mrs. Tommy Thompson, first: Mrs. Kate Bell, second; and Mrs. Ralph Hamilton, third: Captain's trophy. If another heavy frost gets there be fore the housewife, tomatoes are almost sure to be gone. j Here are several recipes for green tomatoes and also for quinces, another product ready for use : now. ure f tart apple pulp 3 as much GREEN TOMATO PRESERVES 2 pounds green tomatoes sliced 4 cups Sugar ! t cups water 1 lemon 1 stick cinnamon 2 pieces of ginger root Vse small tomatoes and slice them thin. Combine sugar and wa ter, sliced, lemon and spices. Cook until clear, about 20 minutes. Re move ginger and cinnamon and iadl tomatoes and .boil until clear. Remove tomatoes to jars, boil sy rup until; thk-k as honey. Pour over tomatoes. ! TOMATO PRESERVES t pound green tomatoes 2 lemons 2 cups sugar Slice tomatoes, let all stand to gether overnight, then cook until clear. QUINCE PRESERVES 2 pounds quinces 3Vz cups sugar 2 quarts water Pare and core quinces half or i quarter the fruit. Add 4 of the 1 sugar to the water. Boil 5 min utes. Add quince and boil another hour very slowly. Let stand 24 . hours. Add remaining sugar and j cook slowly until fruit is clear ric h and red in color.
