Augmt 21, 1943 CJeist to Head Christian Choir Melvin Geist, dean of music at Willamette university, was an nounced Friday as new director of the adult choir at First Chris tian church. The group will first appear under his direction on Sun day morning, September 19. This is the third recent appoint ment by the church and completes the start - Dr. C F. Swander, retiring state secretary of the Oregon Christian Missionary convention, will be the guest minister at the morning and evening services or the cnurcn Sunday -while the Rev. Dudley Strain is on vacation; v The Rev. Walter Naff, associate minister, will sing for the morn ing service "I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked" by O'Hara. Weatherly Speaker At Alliance Church; The Rev. Joe Weatherly win be guest speaker at Christian Mission ary Alliance church Sunday at 11 am. He is northwest regional -'director of Youth for Christ. Sunday night there will be a short ceremony and reception of Vernon Johnson from Seattle, re cently appointed assistant pastor. He Is a graduate of Simpson Bible Institute In Seattle, and has re ceived his preliminary acceptance as a candidate missionary to the foreign field. He has been here a a member of the school choir and .trumpet trio. LESLIE PASTOR RETURNS The Rev.- Q. Wesley Turner, pastor of Leslie Methodist church, will return to his pulpit Sunday at 11 ajn. after a two weeks vacation. Rauser, who has accepted a call to First Baptist church in Lodi, Calif., will preach his farewell sermon Sunday mornin&r at Bethel Bap tist church. North Cottage and D streets. No successor has as yet been named here. Mr. and Mrs. Rauser and their two daughters will be honored by the congregation at a recep tion at the Sunday evening service. The Rev. Mr. Rauser has been here two years, and the church's attendance has been approxi mately doubled. He will assume his new duties September 12, and said he expects to continue evan gelistic work be has done for several years. He was at Sacra mento before coming to Salem. Sunday afternoon the church will have a dedication recital for the newly installed pipe organ at 3 o'clock with the pub lic invited. Guest organist will be William Fawk, organist of First Evangelical United Brethren church.
