Farm Editor. The Statesman SILVERTON, July 19 (SPECIAL) Morejthan 200 horses are expected to take part in Silverton's second Western Horse -show set for August 7 and at McGinnis field. The net proceeds are to be turned over to the school district for use in repairing and im proving the facilities of the field, now property of the Silverton school district. The general committee making -arrangements for the shows is composed of S. Parzy Rose, Harry V. Carson and Elmer Lorence. Named to the reception committee are Al Tippner, Willard Benson, Albert Overlurid, Otto Frank, Dr. A. W. Simmons, Oscar Loe and Henry Werner. Frank Shephard will serve as arena director. Stocks Recoup Some Losses J 1 . r In Day's Trade f NEW YORK, July 20-ian-Stock market prices, in a strong about face,, today recouped some of the drastic losses of the past three days. " As indicated by the Associated Press average of 60 stocks,) the market erased about one-fourth of the drop since Thursday of last week. 1 But activity died down consid jerably from the fevered pace of yesterday. There were 1,034 issues (traded compared with yesterday's record of 1.163 issues. The vol jume subsided to 1,460,000 shares, around a million less than Mon day. j Generally speaking, industrial shares had the most strength. Among them were American Can up $2.12 at $83, American Smelting up $1.62 at $60,12, general Electric up $1.25 at $39 .37. and Proctor & Gamble up $2.25 at $68.87. ! U.S. Steel was up $1.12H at 378.50 as the leader of the steel group. Bethlehem, however, moved narrowly and closed down 25 cents at $35. The Associated Press average 01 ou storks advanced .9 of one point to 68.9. This compared with 71 at the close last Monday, be fore the market went Into a steep dive. Of the 1,034 issues which ap peared on the ticker tape, 656 ad vanced and 203 declined. After an uncertain start, per buying credited to mills jimed wheat to around 3 cents above the morning low. Corn borrowed some strength : from iwheat. For a time traders nv jittle attention to factors other (nan reports of renewed demand for flour by bakery chains and the j-government. When mill buying dried up profit cashing became heavy and wheat closed 4 higher to " low er than the previous finish, July $2.254. Corn was higher to 34 lower. July $2.07 V4 -07.
