To Take Cruise Many Placed In Farm Jobs In This Area employment compensation com mission reported last week. The local office placed a total of 1,274 workers on Marion county farm labor jobs. This stood sec ond only to the Ontario office, a heavy sugar-beet growing industry in eastern Oregon, which referred 1,737 workers. A total of 808 referrals to non agricultural Jobs also was made last month by the Salem office. Of the total number of referrals, 306 were veterans. The county at the first of this month had an active file of job-seekers totaling 1,823, of which 530 were veterans. Fifty-two employers in Marion county,' when surveyed by the commission, estimated that by September an additional 5,000 more jobs would be available than there are now. Roberta Gilchrist was taken to the Salem General hospital Thurs day night seriously ill. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gilchrist of Brooks. Mr. and Mrs. E. B.
