ItU Engagement Of Couple Revealed Of Interest to the groom-elect's many Salem friends is the an nouncement being made by Mr. and Mrs. Clay Richard Schrump of Forsyth Road. Oregon City, of the engagement of their daughter. Marcia Mae. to Robert Coshow Pickens, ton of Mr. and Mrs. Knaffel Haynes Pickens of Salem. The bride-elect was graduated from Oregon State college in 1944 and Cornell university in 1945. She is now .tssociated with the American Viscose corporation in New YorK City, where she is serv ing as head of consumer rela tions. Miss Schrump is the grand daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Davidson of Grants Pass and the great granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elijah J. Davidson. Mr. Davidson was a trustee of Monmouth Christian college, now Oregon College of Education. An other great grandfather was the late George W. Bailey, early pio neer of the state of Oregon Mr. Pickens attended the Uni versity of Oregon and graduated from Philadelphia Textile Insti tute. He was formerly associated with the American Viscose cor poration in Philadelphia, and Is now head of the fabric division of Oregon Worsted company In Portland. Mr. Pickens is the grandson of the late Judge O. P. Coshow, Oregon state judge, and the great grandson of Thomas B. Kay. a noted pioneer of textiles in the west and founder of the Kay Woolen mills. The wedding will take place July 18 at Atkinson Memorial Congregational church in Oregon C.ty. Rites Read At Church St. Marks Lutheran church was the setting for the wedding of Mi s Mildred Steinwart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christe Steinwart of Cuhing, Nebraska, and Thorn -e- Robson, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Robson of Philomath, on Saturday. June 5. The Rev. M. A. Getzendaner performed the 8 o'clock ceremony before a setting of pink and white snapdragons. Lighting the tapers were Mrs. I.nuren Kuebler and Miss Ann Erickson. Jack Thiesen gave the bride in marriage and for her wedding she selected a white satin gown fash luncd with net yoke on the fitted bodice, leg-o-mutton sleeves and full skirt ending in a train. Her fingertip length veil fell from a tiara of seed pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of pink and white roses and bouvardia and for "something blue", a blue hand-kt-rchief . Mrs. Kenneth Patterson was the matron of honor and wore a yellow dress and carried white rarmtions. Sbe wore a headdress of the same Powers. Miss Patsy Robson way. the bridesmaid and her dress was of blue. She carried ptnk and v . h:te carnations and wore similar flowers in her hair. Richard Robson was his broth er's best man and Lauren Kuebler was the groomsman Ushers were Kenneth Hewitt and Dean Snod gra vs A reception followed in the church parlors with Mrs. Marie Robertson presiding at the cof fee urn and Mrs. George Snod gr?s cutting the bride's cake. Miss Betty Pleasant assisted in serving and Mrs. Kenneth Hewitt passed the guest book. After a wedding trip the couple will be at home in Salem at 1360 N Liberty street. For going away the bride wore a blue suit with ping hat and grey accessories. Shower Honors Newlyweds A bridal shower was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Underwood in honor of their youngest daughter, Florence Mae, who was married June 5 to Earl Krebs. Invited guests were Mrs. Fred Irons. Mri. Maurice Ebner, Mrs. T. H. Roguskl, Mrs. John Irons, Mrt. Miller. Mr. and Mn. Students, Visitors Arrive Students are arriving home daily from schools in the south and east and- visitors are begin ning their summer sojourns, stop ping In the capital for visits with friends arid relatives. Tom Brand, son of Judge and Mrs. James T. Brand, arrived in Salem Thursday afternoon by train from Palo Alto. Calif., where he has been attending Leland Stanford the past year. He will be in Salem for the summer months at the home of his par ents. Judge Brand's brother and sister-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brand of Roseburg. will be week end guests at the Brand home and will attend the Willamette univer sity commencement festivities. Richard Page, son of Judge and Mrs. E. M. Page, is expected home Sunday from Leland Stanford uni versity to spend the summer in Salem with his parents. Mr. Page has been named sports editor of the Stanford Dally for the ensuing year. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ferguson of Long Beach, Calif, arrived in the capital Wednesday for a several weeks visit with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wer ner Brown. The Browns and their guests will leave this week end for the former's beach place at Neskowin for a several days sojourn. Mrs. Hume Downs has come up from Los Angeles and is visiting at the home of Dr. and Mrs. C. A. Downs and in Sublimity with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. George Tate and in Silverton with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Moe. Dr. Downs will join his wife here the end of the month. He has been interning at Santa Fe hospital in Los Angeles. Dr. and Mrs. Downs will then leave for Newburgh, New York, where he will take a residency for the ensuing year. They will drive east and plan to be there by July 1. To Attend Meeting The annual conference of the Methodist church In Portland next week, will draw many Salem women. "Woman's Day" will be observed on Thursday at the First Methodist church at 12th and Tay lor streets. Speakers will be Bi shop W. Y. Chen of China, and Mrs. Clarence Meeker of Medford, delegate to the general conference of the church recently held in Bos ton. Mrs. W. L. Lewis of Salem is president of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Ore gon conference of the Methodist church, and Mrs. C. W. Stacey, also of Salem is It secretary of promotion. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Omann of Manson, Iowa. The couple will live in Salem. (Jesten-Miller). Bindels Together Fifty Years AUMSVILLE In celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Bindel of route 1, Aumsville, a solemn high mass was offered at St. Boniface church at Sublimity Monday. May 24, at 8:30 o'clock. The Rev. Jo seph Sherbering, the Rev. Math. Jonas of Stayton and the Rev. Ber nard Neumann of Jordan officiat ed. Following the ceremony, a breakfast was served to the cou ple and relatives at the Bon Ton Cafe in Stayton. At noon a dinner was served at the Bindel home to the children and relatives. Rev. Scherbering and Rev. Jonas were among the guests. The table was centered with a 3-tiered wedding cake flanked by gold candles and mixed bouquets of summer flow ers. A reception was held from 3 to 8 p.m., when many friends and neighbors called. William Bindel and Barbara Lehmer were married on May 24, 1898 at Falls City, Neb. Seven of their nine children who are liv ing include Andrew of Carlsbad, N.M., William of Denver, Mn. Leonard Mettlach of McAllen, Texas, Joseph of Grove, Calif., Mrs. Joseph Boes, Salem, Cecil of Stayton, and Gilbert of route one, Aumsville. All the children were present for the occasion and the Bindels have 33 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Orris Fry have j invited a group of their Salem friends to a dinner party at their Portland home Saturday night. Return from Trip South Mr. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Larmtr and and Mrs. Ira Leighty have returned from an extended trip through the southern states, stop ping in Reno, San Bernardino, Phoenix, E Paso, and visiting the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mex ico. They returned by way of Albuquerque, N. M., Grand Can yon, and Williams, Arizona, visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Denton Dean in Williams. They also stopped to visit Hoover dam, Zion and Bryce canyons, Salt Lake City and Boise.
