Luncheon
Mrs. John F. Hagemann was
hostess for an informal luncheon
and surprise party Thursday af- i
ternoon at her home in Manbrin
Gardens in compliment to Mrs.
Charles B. Pome my. The table
was centered with an arrangement
of lilies-of-the-vatley. Covers were
placed for six matrons.
The group honored Mrs. Pom
eroy with a shower during the af
ternoon. Calling at the tea hour
were Mrs. Harry R. Worth. Mrs.

Juniors Plan for
June Ceremony
SILVFRTON Plans for the
annual Ceremony of the Rose to
be held in June were made Wed
nesday night by members of the
Junior Women's club when they
were entertained at the home of
Mrs John Myers. While the
exact date for the ceremony has
not yet been set it was planned
for mid-June at the First Chris
tian church. Members of tha sen
ior Women's club will be special
guests and the ceremonial serv
ice will be open to tha public.

Mills. Mrs. El ma Smedstedt. Mrs.
James Ekman, Mrs. Fred C rites,

Three Recitals
Are Scheduled
The high school students of
Sacred Heart School of Music
will appear in recital tonight at 8
o'clock in St. Joseph's hall.
Music pupils of the upper
grades of St. Joseph's school will
be presented Sunday afternoon at
2 o'clock, and those of tha lower
grades Wednesday afternoon.

Two more Willamette univer
sity coeds have added their
names to the ever-growing list
of brides-elect.
The engagement of Miss Melva
Williamson to- Paul Cookingham
was announced at the Delta Gam
ma annual spring breakfast on
Sunday. The wedding will take
place on June 27 at the Calvary
Baptist church in Salem, after
which they will leave on a six
weeks trip.
Miss Williamson graduated
from Willamette last June and
served as president of the Delta
Gamma house. She is now teach
ing music at the Roseburg high
school. Mr. Cookingham is phy
sical education director at the Sa
lem YMCA and next fall will
hold a coaching and teaching po
sition at Franklin high school in
Portland. His fiancee will teach
in one of the Portland elemen
tary schools.

Dinner Party
Cop-Ettes held their regular
meeting Wednesday with Mrs. Ev
erett Odle. Plans were made for
a covered dish dinner to be held
for all police officers and their
families at Mayflower hall Sun
day at 8 p.m.
Assisting Mrs. Odle were Mrs.
Walter Esplin and Mrs. Archie
Wilson. The next business meet
ing will be with Mrs. Frank Sloan,

Annual Dinner
For Choir
The choir of the First Christian
church has scheduled its annual
semi-formal dinner for Tuesday
night. May 23, at the Golden
Pheasant. Vida Flood, social
chairman, is in charge of arrange
ments. F. Peter Laron, president
of the group, will serve, as toast
master. Other officers of the
group include Pat Weese, secre
tary; Pearl Speer. treasurer;
Gladys Schollian, robe custodian;
and John Schmidt, director.
Following the dinner the group
will be entertained by Gene Ma
lecki, impersonator. Several reels
of moving pictures will also be
shown.
Former members of the choir
are invited to join the group for
the event. Reservations may be

Springtime
Travelers
Travelers continue to highlight
the social news. Miss Edna Luck
er returned to the capital this
week following a months trip In
the east She visited her old home
in Buffalo, New York and Niagara
Falls. Before returning west she
stopped in Washington, D.C. for
a stay with her brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. John
Lucker.
Dr. Mary B. Purvine arrived in
Salem Wednesday from a ten day
j motor trip south. She visited in
Berkeley with her daughter. Miss
Margaret Purvine, and went on
to Santa Barbara for a stay with
her other daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew H.
