Track Meet Friday
JEFFERSON Rural schools
In this community have been in
vited, to the annual May day
festivities here Friday. May 14,
beginning with assembly at 9
ajn. Taking pert in the all-day
program will be Talbot, Sidney,
Looney Butte, Riverview, Devan
ey, Marion and Jefferson schools.
The grade . track meet will be
held from 9.-30 to 11. It will in
clude a 30- and 100-yard dash
and softball throw for boys and
girls; running broad jump for
boys, and relay (four members
each running 50 yards), all
schools. A parade led by the Jef
ferson school band at 11 wilj be
a new feature this year. Joy
Zeller will be crowned queen and
Junior Wickersham king of the
May day festivities at 1 p.m In
dependence and Jefferson Lyons
will play baseball at 2:30.

Two Portland Men Hurt
When Truck Overturns
Three Mile Highway Job
Will Employ 120 Men
DETROIT, May 8 Construc
tion work on the three mile
stretch of highway from Mongol
to a point above Detroit has been
started by Guy Atkinson who
has the contract. One hundred
and twenty men will be employ
ed and the company has acquired
barracks at Mongol from the
army engineers and has a mess
hall and dormitory.
Many of the men have brought
their families and are living in
trailer houses or other available
living quarters In Detroit. Herb
ert Booth of San Francisco, but
formerly of Salem, Is project
manager; Clifford Thompson is
his assistant and Wayne Wooten
of San Diego is construction superintendent.

four men are from Portland. The
truck was not damaged.
