6 The Statesman, Salem. Oregon, Wxindcrf' April 21. IMS Reception to Fete Couple On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sim will celebrate their silver wedding an niversary at a reception on Sun day afternoon. April 25 at the Mayflower hall. Their friends are being invited through the press to call between 3 and 5 o'clock. Hostesses for the affair will be Mrs. Sim's mother, Mrs. T. L. Ross, and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Thomas R. Sim. Helen Bewley and Henry Sim were married on April 28, 1923 at Dallas and now live in the Auburn district. They have a son. Ensign Daryl Sim, pilot on the carrier Leyte, now stationed in Rhode Island. It is not yet cer tain whether he will be here for the occasion. Pouring will be Mrs. Eva Rush. Mrs. Ward Wolfe of Portland, Mrs. George Lewis and Mrs. Joe Stimiman. Serving will be Mrs. Earl Johnson, Mrs. William Mas sey. Miss Barbara Sim, Miss Inas Mae Peterson of Portland and Johnson, jr. will pass the guest Miss Phillis Sim. Mrs. Frank book. Cutting the cake will be Mrs. W. E. Sim and Mrs. Olga Mc El vain. Miss Ola Grandstaff of Portland will assist about the rooms. Receiving with the honor guests will be Mrs. Ruth Walter of Port land and T. R. Sim. who served as bridesmaid and best man at their wedding. Mrs. Kelly Installed Mrs. Percy R. Kelly was In stalled as worthy high priestess of Willamette Shrine No. 2. White Shrine of Jerusalem at impres sive ceremonies Monday night at the Masonic temple. Baskets of spring flowers and blossoms pro vided the floral setting for the occasion. Musical numbers were given by Josephine Albert Spaulding, accompanied by Mrs. A. A. Schramm, who sang "Silent Strings." "The Years at the Spring" and -"I Bring You Heartsease," dedicated to Mrs. Kelly. Ronald Craven, accompan "id by Mrs. Craven, sang ' The Bird in the Wilderness" and "My Lady Walks In Loveliness," in honor of Mrs. Kelly. Both Mrs. Kelly and Clare P. Davis, watchman of tha shep herds, spoke briefly. Dr. Wil liam Pintler. retiring watchman of the shepherds, presented the retiring worthy high priestess. Mrs. Abner K. Kline, with the past officers jewel. A reception followed the cere mony and a yellow and white color scheme was carried out in the decorations. The serving table was centered with yellow roses, narcissus, daffodils and stock in a silver bowl, flanked by yellow tipers in silver candelabras. Pouring were Mrs Emma Brown, past worthy high priestess of Willamette Shrine, and Mrs. Bea trice Dennison of Klamath Falls, worthy high priestess of Naomi Shrine. Klamath Falls. Serving were Mrs. Wayne Henry, Mrs. Helen Anthony, Miss LaVerne Kantner. Miss Dorothy Cornelius and Miss Gladys Harnsberger. Plans are being made by sev eral members of Willamette Shrine to attend Supreme Shrine in Atlantic City in May. Mrs. Nora Thompson will go south on Thursday to Corning, Calif., to visit her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Cronemiller. Job's Daughters Hold Initiation Job's Daughters met at Beaver hall Monday night and Miss Shirlee jNewbry, honored queen, conducted initiation services for Adeline I Smithion, Barbara Phelps, Donna Hudson and Mary Campbell. A musical program induced piano numbers by Jo Anne Boyer and solos by Ann Gibbens. The DeMolays were represented by Bob Sharp and Jerry BackeL who extended an invitation to the giris to attend the DeMolay con clave dance in June. Plans were discussed for charter night, the place and date to be announced later through the press. Mu Phis Are Active Members of Mu Phi Epsilon on the Willamette university cam pus held initiation services Mon day night at the music hall for Mrs. Josef Schnelker. Miss Joan Johnston, the newly elected presi dent, conducted the ceremony. The chkpter also welcomed four new patrons. Prof. Schnelker, Prof, and Mrs. Frank Fisher and Prof. Sennet Ludden. Following the services the Mu Phi girls entertained with a des sert supper party at the Spa in honor Of Mrs. Schnelker. the new patrons and Dean Melvin Geist. Benefit Card Party Plans are now being completed by the; Mu Phi Epsilon members for a benefit bridge party which they will give on Tuesday, April 27 at University House with Mrs. G. Herbert Smith as hostess. A dessert: luncheon will be served at 1:15 o'clock with cards to fol low. Mrs. Melvin Geist is general chairman of the affair. Bond were honored on their golden wedding anniversary Tuesday night at their North 5th street home when their friends and neighbors called between 7 and 9 o clock. The couple s marriage took place on April 20, 1898, in Chehalis, Wash, and they moved to Salem in 1915 where they have resided ever since. Before his re tirement Mr. Bond was in the contracting business. Mr. and Mrs. Bond have a daughter, Mrs. Ray DeGuire of Salem, and a son, Delmer. L. Bond of Camas, Wash., and seven grandchildren. During the evening music was enjoyed and the couple was sere naded with old songs. Marvelle, DeGuire, a granddaughter, and Doris Walser sang "I Love You Truly" and "You Were Meant for Me." A tiered cake centered the ta ble and bouquets of yellow and white flowers provided the deco rative note. Assisting were Mrs. Carrier Wiltermood of Oakland, Calif., who came north for her sister's golden wedding celebra tion, Mrs. A. P. Collins and Mrs. Ray DeGuire. Alumnae Feted At Kent Home Mrs. Calvin Kent entertained alumnae of Alpha Gamma Delta at her home on Garden road on Tuesday night. A late supper was served following the program. Reports were given on the inter national reunion day last weekend. Members heard a report on the rummage sale and a postponement of the planned fashion show to August. A discussion was held on amend ments and resolutions to come be fore the third annual convention to be held In Los Angeles on June 24-27. Announcement was made of a "Miss Secretary" contest, to be held at the convention, where poise and ability, rather than beauty will be requirements. The girls are to be judged in a busi-ness-uit, the report revealed, and fina7T)udging is lr- the hands of Ken Murray and Earl Carrol. The next meeting of the group will be a social meeting at the Salem coffee shop May 3. Lodge Meetings Are Announced Salem Rebekah lodge, under the direction of Mrs. Vernon Frahm, noble grand, held a business meet ing and social evening on Monday.
