Commercial Salem - Dial 9119 Satan and Cooa Bay ARC Disaster 1 Meet Starts in Salem Monday The most effective disacter re lief setup possible in Oregon, through a definite understanding of the duties and facilities of Red Cross chapters and the state and federal agencies, is the purpose of the two-day statewide disaster conference in Salem Monday and Tuesday, according to Red Cross officials arranging the meeting. Opening event will be a lunch eon Monday noon at the Marion hotel with Maj. Gen. Thomas E. Rilea, state adjutant -general, as speaker. More than 20 Red Cross chapters, state offices and federal agencies will be represented. Tuesday's sessions will be in Legion hall. Among scheduled speakers are Com. Glenn Rollins of the U5. coast guard; Col. O. E. Walsh, district engineer, U.S. en gineers; Raymond H. Barrows, deputy manager of Pacific area Red Cross headquarters; Richard F. Gordon, disaster director of the Pacific area; Col. Francis Mason of the Oregon national guard; Lee M. Bown, assistant superintendent of state police; Dr. Harold M. E rick son, state health department; Jeanne Jewett, state welfare de partment; Jack Hayes, state de fense coordinator; C. H. Arm strong from the state highway de partment; M. S. Main, weather bureau. Valley Red Cross chapter disas ter chairmen on the program are Kenneth Bloom, Linn county; Dr. Ralph E. Purvine, co-chairman, Marion county; Jack Nasholm, Lane county; Ed Valentine, Mult nomah chapter: Arthur Bode. Polk county chapter. I A. DeFrance, disaster chairman for the Marion county chapter of the Red Cross, will preside. Four Corners Firemen Entertain for Wives FOUR CORNERS Directors and firemen of Four Corners Vol unteer Fire association entertain ed their wives at Boucanier res taurant April 12 with a chicken dinner and program. Music was furnished by Les Hershfelt and Tommy Jeffries, accordions. A short business meeting was held. Mesdames Ray Russell, Wilber Flood, Andy Etzel, Waldo Miller, W. G.Gould, Dale Jeffries and Ivan Brown were appointed as a committee to organize an auxiliary to firemen. Organization of addi tional units In the north part of Marion county will take place this week, be said Saturday. Instructions on the organization, one of the few of its kind in Pa cine coast states, and badges will be given to the boys Monday night, the sheriff said.
