: t i Four Corners Mrs. W. R. Gould entertained Thursday for the committee members meeting to formulate plans for a firemen'. auxiliary. Mrs. Wilbert Flood is chairman and Mrs. Ivan Brown secretary. Wives of firemen and directors of Four Corners Volun teer Firemen will meet at the C o m m u n ity hall, Wednesday. April 21. at 8 p.m.. to organize a firemen's auxiliary. Keizer Voting on the county Fchcol budget for the coming year will be held in the schrol house Monday between the hours of 8 and 9 p.m. Persons whose names appear on the current tax roll are eligible to vote. Liberty Mr. and Mrs. Ar thur Phillips and daughter Sharon Kay have moved to Detroit. Mrs. Phillips was formerly Phyllis Lustoff. Unionvale Mrs. El J. Wilder, who recently underwent major surgery at the General hospital in McMinnville, is at her home here now. B. F. Browning, pastor of the Metho dist church, returned home Thurs day after 10 days in the Silver- ton hospital for major surgery and is recuperating satisfactorily. Rex Lindewood. DETROIT The Women's Civic club met with Mry. John Weisgerber when 24 members were present and one guest, Mrs. Fred Siever of C. C. Camp. Members voted to form a mu sical organization here, sponsored by the club. In charge of this are Mrs. Edward Hanan and Mrs. S. T. Moore. The library will be discontin ued for the present as there i seems to be a lack of interest. The membership was divided 1 into two groups to boost attend ance, the losing group to furnish ' dinner for the winners. School bus will take any adult or young person over 14 wishing j to go to Mill City for a free j X-ray and the membership is ' working to have a large attend ance. Next meeting of the club will be with Mrs. Otis White. CLOVERDALE Eula Hennie entertained Monday with a party for 4-H Sewing club members. Present were Darlene Heln. Irene Thomas, Phyllis Archibald, Jo Anne Pence. Evelyn Hennlen, Nor ene Kreger, Carol Newkirk, Helen Mickenham, Margie Bauchie, Kar leen Drager and Mary Lou Hatch. Guests were Maxine Micken ham, Nellie Thomas, Gertrude and Pat Hennies. Cloverdale 4-H Sew ing club members will model their dresses Friday night at Turner j style revue put on by the Turner 4-H clubs. Irene Thomas and Gerald Wal drop were voted the healthiest girl and boy at school Tuesday. They will represent Cloverdjle school in the county contest later this month. Keizer Plant Sale Nets Church Fund Sl i KEIZER Keizer Woman's Sew ing club met with the president, Mrs. Nick LeRud, Thursday. Cov ered dish luncheon was served at noon, followed by sewing and quilting. A plant sale netted $14, to be donated to the building fund of the Community church. Nineteen members were present. Next rneeting will be May 6 with Lois Keefer. Albany Council Names New Police Office Head ALBANY J. O .(Jim) Byerley has been named City chief of po lice, to succeed R. L. Chandler, city marshal. Byerley will also fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Elmer Conn, assistant chief of po lice here for several months. Conn is now in The Dalles where he holds a similar position to the one he had in Albany. Chief Byerley has been sta tioned at Albany as a state police officer since July 1, 1942. Previ ously he had done preliminary police work other places for two years. Former Chief of Police Chandler has not been on active duty for many months and is retiring from public service.
