March 20-()-What conbnued its retreat today ih the face of more repdrts of a rush to sell the cash grain in the southwest Declines were not large and a late rally regained part of the lost ground. Corn and oats also moved lower. There was no announcement from the) commodity credit cor poration at Kansas City on the amount of wheat it purchased yesterday or today. Buying for both days was expected to be made public Monday. Grain trade reports said the agency did not take as much as was offered. Wheat closed 1 to 2Va lower. May S2-31H-2-31; corn was V, to 2 cents lower. May $2.114-4; oats were V4-4S lower. May $1 0-V, and soybeans were 2 cents lower to 3 cents higher, May $3.40. The price at which th CCC will buy wheat at Kansas City was lowered, a sure indication, in the opinion of traders, that the CCC was getting all the wheat it wanted. The agency of fered to pay 1 1 cents a bushel j over the Chicago May future to- j day compared with 12 cents I yesterday. Stoclvs Finish Week Scoring Brisk Advance NEW YORK, March 23 -CV In one of the strongest and faetest Saturday markets of the past several years, stocks today con cluded a brisk recovery week with advances of 1 to S or more points. In the final session the high speed ticker tape ran as mura as two minutes late as trends climbed. There were subsequent slowdowns but another buying wave- hit the list near the close and. favorites generally finished at or around the tops of the day. The comeback got under way Wednesday after Tuesday's sharp stumble and was credited mainly to the president's address to con gress. The inference was drawn that big rearmament plans and stock-piling would be forthcom ing which would prop many in dustries. In addition, the lengthy de cline of the market since early January brought bidding on the idea that a substantial technical rebound .was overdue. Hopes for settlement of labor disputes were helpful, as was the defeat in the senate of an excess profits tax proposal and belief that the European relief program would receive quick approval. The outlook for tax reduction also provided support. The Associated Press 60-stock composite was up 1.4 points at 63.6, a high since Feb. 2 and the largest short session jump since April IS, 1939. The week's gain of 2.1 points was a top since last June. Of, 958 issues appearing, 821 rose and only 41 declined.
