Leivis Worden, Judge, Arrives For Dog Show Lewis S. Worden, nationally re cognized dog show judge from I New J-rvey, arrived In Salem I Thursday in advance of the 11th annual ail-breed dee; how which opens ia the local armory at 9:30 am. Friday under atupices of the Salem Lion club and the Dog Fancier association of Oregon. Worden, h lat month judged a big dog show in Madison Square Garden, will return east from here n-xt week to judge a New Jersey show, then will come wrtt again for two dog shows in Colorado next month. Some 423 dogs of about 50 breeds will be judged by Worden In the two-day dog show, all events of which are to be conduct ed in tha armory. Tickets will be available at the armory entrance. Worden voiced high praise for the local dog show Thursday when he was Introduced to the Salem Lions club at a Marion hotel luncheon by J. H. WiUett, local chairman for the show. Also in troduced was Frank BW1. Salem dog fancier, who will be show su perintendent. Toy dogs, working dogs and terriers will be Judged in that order Saturday between 0:30 a.m. and 6:30 p m. Obedience trials are scheduled for 7 p m. On Sunday, houada, non-sporting and sporting dos will be judged between 9:30 a m. and 8 p m. when final variety classes and best brace competi tion will be judged. SaWm 4Jons club members will assemble at the armory at 6:30 this evening to put up benches and otherwise prepare the build ing for the show. Both Steckley and Muir were Oregon Statesman carriers a few years ago. Oregon Ranks High in Navy Recruit Drive Portland navy recruiting sta tion (Including tha Salem substa tion) ranks ninth among 43 ma jor recruiting stations for the 17. S. navy, it is shown by a new compilation of recruiting results for the seven months period end ing Jan. 31, im. CPO P. A. Raney, local re cruiting chief, this week receiv ed a summary showing Portland station made 103.3 per cent of its quota of 750 recruits, and for the same period the western states recruiting area was second among eight such areas in the country with 106 per cent. Raney pointed out, however, that despite thia record in .the west, and similar quota-exceeding results in the south, the na tionwide navy recruiting program Is behind quotas. In the seven months period1 only 72-2 per cent of the general navy quota for first enlistments wag attained. The quota waa 73,000.
