U.S. Re-Entry
Into Market
Spurs Grains
CHICAGO, March 13 -OV The
government's re-entry into the
cash wheat market was celebrat
ed by substantial advance In all
cereals today. At the start the
upturn was most pronounced in
wheat, but corn was showing the
mot strength at the closing gong.
Oats made fair sized gains.
Late yesterday the agriculture
department said it would buy
about 1.000.000 bushels of wheat
a day to fill Immediate export
needs. It also announced it had
purchased flour equal to 10,920,
000 bushels of wheat since March
3.
Wheat closed 4 4-64 higher.
May $2 40-2 40 4; com was 5 to
74 higher. May $2 18-2 18S ; oats
were 1 4 to 3 cents higher, May
$1 124-4, and soybeans were 7
to 8 cents higher, May (3 41.
The agriculture department has
been out of the wheat market
sine, prices started to break in
early February. It was not known
how much wheat It would at
tempt to acquire at this time, but
analysts said that only about
8.600,000 bushels were needed to
meet April export allocations.
