Au Revoir Parties Given Several informal au revoir par ties are being arranged in com pliment to Mrs. Ray A. Yocom of Chicago, formerly of Salem, prior to her departure nxt week lor the east. She has been in Sa lem, Portland and Corvallis vis iting with her family since mid January. .. . Mrs. A. A. Schramm presided at a one o'clock luneheon Friday afternoon at her North 17th street home for the pleasure of Mrs. Yocom. Eight of the honor guests intimate friends were bidden to the affair. Bridge was in play during the afternoon. The lunch eon table was centered with an arrangement of daffodils, iris and Mrs. Robert L. Elfstrom will be a luncheon hostess Tuesday after noon at her Center street home in honor of Mrs. Yocom. Covers will be placed- for twelve of Mrs. Yo com's close friends. The afternoon will be spent informally. The hostess will use spring flowers in decorating. Miss Omann Engaged Another young woman of Sa lem has taken her place among the other engaged girls this week. Miss Lorraine Omann's engage ment to Hal Fries is being an nounced. Miss Omann's parents are Mr. and .Mrs. Walter Omann of Manson, Iowa. The bride-elect came here this fall and is em ployed at the state highway de partment Mr. Fries, a Boxer, attended Salem school and is now em ployed here. The couple will live in Salem after the wedding which has been set for a Sunday in May. Vows Exchanged At Church Rites MILL. CITY The Mill City Presbyterian church was the scene of the wedding Saturday at 8 p.m. of Mrs. Jessie Romilly, daughter of Mrs. Robert Saers of The Dalles, and Francis Bodeker, son of Ben Bodeker of Mill City. Dr. David Ferguson performed the nuptials. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Merrill were soloists, accompan ied by Mrs. Donald Sheythe. The bride entered on the arm of her brother-in-law, Frank Merrill, who gave her in marri age. Her gown was of ice blue brocaded satin, trimmed with white lace. It was fashioned with basque waist and sweetheart neck line. She wore a seed pearl cap with white lace. Her flowers were Calla lilies and white hyacinths. Mrs. Margie Asher, St. Helens, in pale blue chiffon attended her sister as matron of honor. She carried a fan shaped bouquet of yellow snapdragons and carna tions. Keith Salchenberger, brother-in-law of the groom was best man. Jack Haseman and Milan Weston were the ushers. A reception followed the cere mony in the IOOF hall Presiding at the coffee urns were Mrs. Keith Salchenberger and Mrs. John Kunkle, sister of the groom. Mrs. Frank Merrill, sister of the bride, served the wedding cake. Mrs. Alex Bode ker, aunt of the groom, greeted the guests at the door. Mrs. Dar rell Anderson and Mrs. Wilbur Meinert were in charge of the gift table. The bride's going away cos tume was a black dressmaker suit with red accessaries and an orchid corsage. After a honeymoon trip east of the mountains the couple win re side in Mill City. The bride was honored Tuesday night with a bridal shower at the IOOF hall with Mrs. Frank Mer rill, Mrs. Alta Bodeker. Mrs. W. W. Henderson and Mrs. Jack Duggan as hostesses. Present were: Mrs. Floyd Fleet wood, Mrs. Frank Jackson, Mrs. Edna Jenkins, Mrs. G. Wells, Mrs. Lee Bassett, Mrs. James Reed, Mrs. Frank Barney, Mrs. Arbie Johnson. Hadley of Long view are spending the week end here with their family, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hadley. Sunday the visitors will be guests at a family dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas McKay, who will entertain for Mrs. Wayne Hadley ' birthday. West Salem Club Meeting Held West Salem Woman's club held a meeting at the West Salem city hall Thursday night which was attended by 45 members. Mrs. Lynn Sloper was presiding offi cer. Mrs. Opal Bear sang solos, accompanied- by Mrs. H. J. Las well. The group set aside $25 for kit chen supplies and Mrs. Fred Gib son was named to the committee for purchase of them. Committee for the next meeting was named as Mrs. Don Watson chairman, Mrs. Tom Dalke, Mrs. Oliver Sar geant, Mrs. A. J. Shae and Mrs. Drew Michaels. ! Mrs. Mark Gehlar poured dur ing the social hour. Thursday afternoon, the Salem Council of Women's Organizations heard Frank Bennett talk on the proposed school bond and Mrs. Earl Huckstep, representative of the Social Hygiene association, talk on family relations and pub lic health. She talked about dis cussion groups being formed. Mrs. W. J. Beard presided at the business session. Ball Parties Highlight Weekend Outstanding event of the week end will be the Military ball to night at the armory between 9 and 12 o'clock. The grand march is scheduled for 10 o'clock to be led by military officials and dignitaries. A number of parties are being arranged to precede and follow the ball. Lt. and Mrs. James F. Smith and Captain and Mrs. Cas per M. Schweiert will be host for a party before the ball at the Smith home on the North River road. They have invited a group of their friends to call during the early evening. Major and Mrs. Harlan Judd will be hosts for a supper party at their South 14th street home following the ball. Organist to Play Sunday Josef Schnelker, head of the organ and theory department at the Willamette university college of music, will appear in an organ recital at the First Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Included on his program is a sonata for organ by Julius Reub- ke, based on the 94th Psalm, and the music expresses the drama of the stirring poem. Julius Reub ke, a pupil of Liszt who died at the age of twenty-four was one of the most promising composers of the 19th century. Josef Schnelker will spend the summer at the University of Michigan where he will serve as a guest instructor in music while working on his doctor's degree. Pleasant, North Carolina, before her marriage on February 8 at ML Gilead Lutheran church in ML Pleasant. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Loren R. White of Salem. The couple will live in Fayerteville, while he is stationed at Fort Braga, N.C. After his release from the army Mr. White will bring his bride to Salem to live. (Jg) and Mrs. Wayne Stuart Nelson (Bar bara Johnson) on Wednesday, rhniarv 18 at the Emanuel hos pital. The baby's older sister is Genevieve Ann. The granaparenu nr Tir anrl Mrs. L D. Johnson of Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Nelson of Salem. Lt. Nelson is stationed at Alameda, Calif, with the navy, where the family re sides. A six and a half pound daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Blau (Martha Byrd) of Los An geles on February 14. The baby's maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Clarence M. Byrd of Salem and Mrs. Byrd has gone south to be with her daughter and family for several months. Of interest to their many Sa lem friends is announcement of the birth of a son. David Reilley, to Mr. and Mrs. William Graham of New York City on February 14. The little boy, who weighed seven pounds, eight ounces. Is the grandson of Mrs. David Graham of Eugene, formerly of Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Coburn Graben- horst will be in Portland tonight and will be the guests of friends at the Rose Bowl at the Mult nomah hotel. Preceding they will attend a party at the Multnomah Athletic club. Scotland and Venezuela before coming to Salem to live. The group packed a box for the Polish family which it is sponsoring. A Valentine Wedding Event of St. Valentine's day was the marriage of Miss Han nah Converse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Converse, and Albert Porter, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Porter, at the Assem bly of God church with the Rev. Walter Frederick officiating. Pre ceding the double ring ceremony Mrs. Clarence Frank and How ard Olsen sang. Dick Lou than and Billie Oliver played the wedding music. Gail and Heather Watson and Sigrid Converse, nieces of the bride, lighted the candles. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white satin gown fashioned on princess lines with a deep lace bertha embel lishing the bodice. Her train length veil was held in place by heart shaped coronet and she carried white carnations center ed with an orchid. The bride's four sisters and a sister-in-law were members of the bridal party. Mrs. Harvey Jacob- son was matron of honor, and bridesmaids were Mrs. Don Wat son, Mrs. Fred Jaeger, Mrs. Ed win Harstad and Mrs. Eltham Converse. Harvey Jacobson was best man and ushers were Don Watson, Fred Jaeger, Edwin Harstad and Eltham Converse. Barbara Sue Webb was flower girl and Donnie Webb ring bearer. A reception followed the cere mony at the Don Watson home on Glen Creek drive. Mrs. E. McCloud, sister of the groom, pre sided at the gift table. When the couple left on their honeymoon the bride wore a kelly green suit with white gabardine topper and green suede purse and shoes. She pinned an orchid cor sage to her suit The newlyweds will live in Salem where tne groom is in business. Woman's guild of the First Con gregational church met Wednes day at the church with Mrs. T. D. Kibbe as hostess, assisted by Mrs. P. L. Calvert.
