Many at Bethel Installation Over three hundred people at tended the installation of the new Bethel of Jobs in Salem on Satur day afternoon at the Veterans balL Miss Shirlee Newbry was Installed as the honored queen of the new Salem Bethel. The Independence Bethel put on the initiatory work under the di rection of Dolores Kleitzing, hon ored queen of the Independence Bethel, For the installation the honored queen was John Capell of Bethel No. 9, Portland. The Bethel also presented a Valentine degree for Miss Newbry. Mrs. El win Hall, Portland, grand guardian of Oregon, installed the new council and presented a Bi ble from the grand guardian coun cil to the new Bethel. Also pres ent was Ray Hampton. Rose burg, associate grand guardian of Ore gon. Miss Newbry introduced her parents. Secretary of State and Mrs. Earl Newbry. A number of friends and the advisor of the Ashland Bethel were present for the ceremonies. Mrs. Charles Powers, Jr. and her daughters are visiting in the capital at the Klngwood Heights home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adam EngeL. The Alpha Gasnma Delta alexa- nae will meet tonight at the home of Mrs. Keith Flory. 1941 Wilbur st, at 8 o'clock. S pence of Port land, formerly of Salem, to Rich ard Brooks Beckford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Beckford of Wood burn, took place in Salem on Feb ruary IS at the First Congrega tional church. The Rev. Seth Huntington officiated at the 4 o'clock rites. Ronald Royce S pence, twin brother of the bride, sang and Mrs. Mary Barton was the organist. Mr. S pence gave his daughter .in marriage and for her wedding she chose a period gown of bro caded satin designed with draped skirt at the hipline, bustle, long sleeves, a high stand-up collar and a train. Her fingertip length veil of French illusion cascaded from a seed pearl tiara. She car ried an old fashioned nosegay of sprays of bouvardia centered with a white orchid with a purple throat. Mrs. Donald Stogner of San Mateo, Calif., was her sister's matron of honor. She wore a powder blue taffeta dress fash ioned with panier effect at the hipline, sweetheart neckline, puf fed sleeves and buttons down the back. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Mose Van Dell, a sister of the bride, and Mrs. Wilson Beckford, who wore pink taffeta dre5ses made identi cal to the honor attendant's. They all had matching ruffled net head dresses and carried quaint nose gays of camellias, carnations and bouvardia. Wilson Beckford stood with his brother as best man and ushers were George Zurlinden, Fritz Straugh and Walter Bowman. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. S pence selected an aqua silk jersey gown embellished with matching sequins on the bodice, long white gloves and a flowered hat. Her corsage was of gardenias and bouvardia. Mrs. Beckford at tended her son's nuptials in a black crepe dinner gown with pleated skirt and silver sequins at the neckline. She wore pink gloves and a black hat with net trim. Her flowers were pink car nations and camellias. The newlyweds greeted their guests at a reception in the fire place room. After a wedding trip to Mr. Hood tha newlyweds will be at home in Portland, where they have taken an apartment at 4141 S. E. 65th and Boise. Both are employed there with the Pa cific Telephone and Telegraph Co. Furloughs Hosts To Marine Corps Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Furlough were hosts to the Marine Corps League and auxiliary, Salem De tachment, at a no-host dinner on February 12. Guests present were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Watson, Mrs. William A. Noyes, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Millett, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd DeLapp, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Snook. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hood, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Prick ett, Mr. and Mrs. T. . Borkman, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Tompkins, Mrs. Chris tine Mumm, Mrs. Sophia Wheeler, Miss Golds Wheeler, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Simkins, Mrs. Eva M. Rush, Mrs. Edna M. Prince, Mr. and Mrs. George Pro, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Powers, Miss Shrl ley Durand, Gene Wheeler, George Wilkinson and the hosts. Mrs. Jack Simkins presided at a short business meeting of the auxiliary following the dinner when reports were made by Mrs. Simkins on the recent meeting of the state executive board of the auxiliary. Music consisted of flute solos played by Mrs. James Stone, who was accompanied by Miss Alice Crary Brown. Miss Elizabeth Dotson of the Y. W. C A. was presented by Mrs. J. W. Hutchison, education chair man, whs spoke briefly concern ing the Town Meeting" program of her organization. Mrs. Estill Brunk presided at the business meeting. Contribu tions were voted to Salem Cherry Festival association, scholarship loan and - fellowship fund, the American Red Qross, Junior Wo man's club library fund and the Penney Art fund. A silver offering was taken to assist with the rebuilding' of a woman's clubhouse in the Philip pines. Foreign relief chairman. Mrs. Howard Shubert, announced that cotton clothing and miscel laneous articles for two Filopino families would be received this week. Wrapped bundles may be left at the Valley Motor co, sales department. Voted to membership was Mrs. Nellie Haefliger. Guests were Mrs. Grant C. Rogers and Mrs. Helen Richards. In charge of the social hour was Mrs. Robert Hutcheon, who was assisted by Mrs. Floyd White, Mrs. Charles Fowler, Mrs. Clay Cochran and Mrs. Albert C Gragg. Mrs. Estill Brunk and Mrs. Guy Hickok poured at a tea table arranged in the Valentine motif of red and white. KFJZEK Mrs. Leais Cress was hostess for a Valentine tea for a group of Camp Fire Blue birds and their mothers Sunday afternoon. Tea table covered with a lace table cloth, was centered with greenery framed in a large, ruff led heart, flanked by tall white tapers decorated with red cup ids. Mrs. Charles Haynes, assistant leader, presided at the urns. Mothers and daughters present were Mrs. J. C. Mount and Joyce, Mrs. Leo Leaf and Jean, Mrs. Le Roy Van Cleava and Lois, Mrs. G. R.
