Chapel Sunday Christening services will be held Sunday afternoon for three months old Rebecca Jeanne Purvine, j daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ralph j E. Purvine, in the chapel of St. Paul's Episcopal church. The Rev. ! George H. Swift will officiate at: the 330 o clock ceremony. Mrs. Stewart Johnson and Mrs. Robert J. Herrall will be the little girl's godmothers and Dr. Arthur A. Fisher will be her godfather. She will wear the white christen ing dress and robe which her mother and brother, Billy, wore at their christenings. The dress is trimmed in handmade lace and the robe is embroidered in blue. A small reception for members of the family and a few friends will be held following the services at the Purvine home on Saginaw street. The little girl's grandpar ents are Mr. and Mrs. Guy X. Ray mond of Winona, Minn, and Dr. Mary B. Purvine and both grand mothers will be present for the oc casion. Two Dinner Parties Several informal dinner parties are on the social slate this week. Mr. and Mrs. Ray L. Smith will be hosts at dinner Saturday night at their Center street home. The evening hours will be spent informally. Guests of the Smiths will be Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Sprague and Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Schramm. Mr. and Mrs. Richard D. Slater entertained at dinner Wednesday night at their Rural avenue home for i group of friends. Bridge was In play during the evening. This is the first in a series of dinner parties the hosts arc plan ning. Covers were placed for Mr. and Mrs. William L. -Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. G. Frederick Chambers, Judge and Mrs. . M. Page, Miss Dorathea Steusloff and Mr. and Mrs. Slater. Marriage Announced GERVAIS Mr. and Mrs. Mer rit E. Clapper are announcing the marriage of their daughter Kath ryn to John Allen Baker, jr., on January 13 at Vancouver, Wash ington. A son. Wayne Frederick, was born on Monday to Mr. and Mrs. Cil Lieser of Eugene. This is the Lieser's second child, their elder being a daughter. Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Hopkins are sisters. Mrs. Swift Hostess For Tea Mrs. George H. Swift, wife of the new dean of the Central Dean ery of Episcopal churches, was hostess for an informal tea Wed nesday afternoon at the rectory on Chemeketa street in compliment to the out-of-town women here for the deanery session. Fifty guests attended the tea meeting at which Mrs. Charles DeSully of Portland, head of the diocesan al tar guild, spoke. Bidden were wives of the clergy, and laywomen of the cen tral deanery, who came from Til lamook, Toledo, Newport, Dallas, McMinnville, Albany, Eugene, Corvalli?, Roseburg. Lebanon, Cot tage Grove, Wood burn and Sa lem. Presiding at the tea urns were Mrs. Russell Catlin and Mrs. Will iam L. Blaker of Roseburg. As sisting the hostess were Mrs. A. C. F. Perry. Mrs. William H. Lytle, Mrs. Arthur Hay and Mrs. E. G. Sanders. The tea table was cen tered with a spring bouquet of heather, camellias, forsythia and pussywillows flanked by red ta pers. The rooms were decorated with arrangements of cbtonensters and red candles. Board Feted By Walkers Mr. and Mrs. Howard Walker were hosts for an informal party Tuesday night at their home on North 18th street in compliment to members of the board of direc tors of the Salem Junior Cham ber of Commerce and their wives. Mr. Walker is president of the junior chamber. Refreshments were served following an informal evening.
