Jan. 28 -)- Led by oil, selected rails and indus trial, the stock market today ne gotiated i another of it widest recoveries of the past month with dealings crossing the million share level for the first time in week. Further buying by professionals on the idea that the recent drop to an average low since last June called for a substantial technical rebound provided mos-t of the ris ing stimulus. The successful Gulf Oil financing and expanding de mand, for petroleum sparked stocks in this group. Another big batch of cheering earnings and dividends bolstered individual favorite. Advances of 1 to 3 or more point were widely distributed at the close although a smattering of pivot a Is failed to shake off small declines. Transfers of 1.060. 000 shares compared with 860,000 the day before. The Associated Press 60-stock composite was up .6 of a point at 63.7, best revival since Dec. SO. Of 1.014 issues legistering. 600 rose. 196 fell and 218 were unchanged. Bethlehem Steel finished up S t 34 and. after the close, di rectors , voted a div idend of 60 rents, on the 3-for-l split stock. The old stock had received quar terly payment of $1.50 a share. The board also reported net of f 1.21 a share for the December quarter against 96 cents in the September period and $1.15 in the final 1946 quarter. Wheat was up as much as 2 cents a bushel, corn dropped as much as 14 cents, oats split between S higher and "i lower. Wheat took its strength, amounting to three cents at one time, from a mention in Presi dent Truman's special message to congress that wheat exports should reach 500,000,000 bushels from the 1947 crop if possible. The accepted figure previously in the trade had been 450,000,000 most recently. Wheat closed to two cents a bushel higher. May $2.914 2.92 ': corn was -l4 lower. May $2.58-2.58' , and oats were higher to "a lower, May $1.23 V. Soybeans were unchanged to eight cents lower, March $4.08. Mountain View School Makes Polio Return DALLAS Mountain View school near West Salem is first to bring contribution, $17, in the March of Dimes campaign, Mrs. Ralph Howe, treasurer, reports. Mrs. Blossom Westerfeld and Roeeline Toe, teachers in the two room school, give much of the credit for the success of the drive to James Folsom and Curtiss Zim mermann, two pupils. Median Farm Income Double 1939 Figure WASHINGTON, Jan. 29 -(P-The Median (middle) income of American families from civilian wages or salaries outside of farm ing in 1946 was more than double that of prewar 1939, a census bu reau report said yesterday. It was $1,389 in 1939 and $3, 010 in 1946, the bureau said. Jan. 29 -JT-A murder charge against 13-year-old Delia Hubanks was dismissed in County court Wednesday with the suggestion by the Judge that she go back to school and "try to forget" about killing her father with a shotgun. The chubby, sober-faced junior high school pupil went free af'.ir telling at her brief preliminary hearing how she shot Ed Hubanks, 52, to death last night in their Oakhurst home near Tulsa when her father, in a drunken rage threatened her mother with a hammer. Non-Support Cases Heard Non-support charges resulted in a one-year parole and a revoked parole for two men who appeared Thursday in Circuit Judge E. M. Page's court here. Robert E. Nusom of Portland, bound over to the grand jury on December S and indicted last Tuesday, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a year in the county jail and paroled on condition he pay $25 monthly support money for his minor child. Fred Davenport, West Stayton, was returned to the county jail upon revocation of the one-year parole given him January 6. He was arrested Wednesday evening by sheriff's deputies on direction of the court, which said he faijed to meet the conditions of his par ole, that he support his family.
