A Surprise Shower Miss Virginia Riessbeck, who becomes the bride of Ned Burris on December -20, was feted at a surprise party Monday night when Mrs. W. G. Burris enter tained at the Paul Burris home on North Summer street. A miscel laneous shower honored the bride-to-be. A dessert supper was served and the table was centered with an arrangement of blue and silver balls in a silver dish, blue tapers and holly. Parties for Miss Case Miss Virginia Case, who will become the New Year's day bride of Brady Gallagher, will be hon ored at two parties this week. Mrs. Arvilla Mickelson, president of the Oregon Yearly Meeting Mis sionary Union, came from Port land to speak at this meeting. Dr. and Mrs. Chester A. Downs will be in Portland Thursday night as dinner guests of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Coffey, former Salem residents. The occasion will cele brate the birthdays of Dr. Coffey and Mrs. Downs. The club rooms were dec orated with the traditional holly and red candles, and under the Christmas tree . were many wrapped packages for the Chil dren's Farm home and the Che mawa Indian school. A group of Christmas songs were sung by Mrs. David Camer on, who was accompanied by Mrs. D. B. Kleihege. Dr. Ivan Lovell of Willamette university spoke on the "Bill of Rights," which day is nationally commemorated on December 15. A brief history of the tuberculosis Christmas seal was given by Dale Van Cleave of Salem high school. Mrs. Clarence S. Bowes was elected to membership In the club. A cash contribution was made to the "Christmas Ship" program and the club also voted to assist with the Richmond school lunch program for the balance of the school year. The tea table which was ar ranged by Mrs. Harry V. Collins was covered with a green satin cloth centered with a silver bowl of free ornaments and sprigs of evergreens and holly. Red vigil lights were used around the bowl which was flanked with silver candelabras holding red tapers. Mrs. David Cameron and Mrs. Frank Myers presided at the tea table. Others assisting Mrs. Col lins were Mrs. Ralph Moody, Mrs. Oscar Cutler, Mrs. William Leary, Mrs. Claude M. Johns, Mrs. L. O. Clement and Mrs. Ernest RosteL Reeses Fete Faculty Dean and Mrs. Seward P. Reese were hosts for a pre-holiday party Saturday night with members of the Willamette university law school faculty and their wives as guests. Guests were bidden to dinner at the Lions Den, later returning to the Reese home on North Church street for a Christmas par ty and singing of carols. Acton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Acton of Salem, which will be an event of Saturday, December 27. The ceremony will take plac at Trinity Episcopal church In Hoquiam at 8 o'clock with a re ception following at the Sinkola home. Mr. and Mrs. Acton, their daughters, Jane and Margaret, and Mrs. Acton's mother, Mrs. J. H. Phillips, will leave the day after Christmas for. Hoquiam to attend the rites. Rites Read At Church ; The First Congregational church was the scene of a lovely winter wedding on Sunday, December 14 when Miss Eunice Massee, daugh ter of Mrs. Frank A. Massee, be came the bride of Homer Davis of Gervais. The Rev. Seth Hunt ington officiated at the 3 o'clock nuptials. Mrs. T. C. Mason was the soloist and Jean Hobson Rich the organist For her wedding the bride chose an aqua afternoon dress en hanced with sequins and matching halo hat of net and sequins with shoulder length veil. She carried a white Bible marked with a white orchid. Miss MaVy Massee was her sis ter's only attendant and wore a pearl grey dress with gold nail head trim, matching hat with fuchsia trim and corsaee of roses Sanford Davis stood with the groom as best man. Ushers were the bride's two brothers, Calvin and Truman Massee. : A reception was held in the church parlors. Mrs. Harvey E. Tobie cut the cake and Miss Mar Jorie Smith presided at the punch bowl. Miss Elva Smith served the coffee. ' The newlyweds have gone south on a motor trip to Arizona on their honeymoon. After January 3 they will be at home on a ranch near Gervais. The bride is a graduate of Willamette university and a mmeber of Mu Phi Epsllon She took graduate work this fall at Oregon State college.
