will be protected at the annual
meeting which originally was

Washington State Basketball Coach
Jack Friel had a sympathetic word
for cage officials today and ob
served, "I wouldn't referee a col
lege basketball game if they gave
me the gymnasium.
Friel, whose Cougars embark on
an eastern barnstorming trip next
week, said he has a plan to help
the officials when they 'work at
Pullman. It's a pre-game clinic
on rules to acquaint the crowd
with the referee's procedure dur
ing the contest. "I wouldn't take
the kind of abuse the officials get
from fans for anything," ho explained.

Junior Basket
Plan Released
A 30-game playing schedule for
six teams has been released by
Athletic Director Vera Gilmore
for Salem Junior high school bas
ketballing this season. The cam
paign will start Friday, January
9, and will end Friday, March 12.
Each team will play other teams
twice in the double round robin
schedule. All games will be play
ed on Fridays, three" games a
week.
Three teams will represent Par
rish, the Cardinals, Grays and Pi
oneers. Two will come from Les
lie, the Blues and Golds. West
Salem will have one team. Games
will be played both at four o'
clock in the afternoon and eight
o'clock at night and all will be
either before or after "B" con
tests. The schedule:
