Fire Boys Meet, Wives Have Sale AMITY . The Amity volunteer fire department were hosts for the Polk-Yamhill county fire repay ments recently in the I. O. O. F. hall. Phil Meeker, acting mayor, welcomed the . visitors. New of ficers elected were: Frank Kauble, Willamina, president; Fred West, Dallas, secretany; trustees: Tom Martin, Amity; Claire Heider, Dayton and R. A. Rossner, Mc McMinnville. P. E. Meeker, pre sented the subject of grain ware : house insurance and fire hazards which brought out many angles in the discussion in which the, men joined. Jack Case of the state fire marshall's office was a guest. The newly organized Women's auxiliary served hot turkey sand wiches to the 70 men present. The next meeting will be held in Falls City. The Women's auxiliary to the Amity fire department held a pastry and candy sale at the Amity Food Market Nov. 26. This was their first money raising venture. World Service Group Meets at Middle Grove MIDDLE GROVE Mrs. Emory Goode entertained Tuesday for members and friends of Middle Grove Women's Society of World Service at the annual thank of fering. Mrs. Harvey Page led the candle lighting devotional service preceding the business meeting. Reports from various depart ments included three overseas parcels sent, and local distribu tion of food and clothing, with two yet to be mailed. Mrs. Paul Bassett will be hostess December 23 at 8 p.m. Mrs. Goode, assisted by Mrs. Lee Dow and Mrs. Lawr ence Hammer, served refreshments. At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard T. Wicklander on Garden Road were her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo S. Long of Albany; his sister, Miss A. Wick lander and Miss Grace Brecken ridge of Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd King enter tained with a family dinner at their home on Swegle road. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wickoff, Frank King and Ben ton. King all of Salem. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Brandt were their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ames and two . children of Portland; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Johnson of Silverton and Mr. and Mrs. John Woodburn of Sa lem. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hulst of Sa lem were guests at the William Hartley home. Mr. and Mrs. Homer J. Conk lin motored to Portland to spend the day at the home of Mrs. Coriklin's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Parker. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Wehtie and son Har old home from Oregon State col lege for the week end drove to Milton-Freewater to spend the week end with Mr. Wehtie'S moth er and her sister andjamily. CLUBBERS HEAR LEADER MILL CITY Anthol Riney, 4-H club leader addressed 4-H clubbers at the Mill City high school auditorium Tuesday after noon. Monmouth "Implementing the Democratic Ideal" is the title of an article by Dr. J. F. Santee in the November issue of the Social Stu dies. Dr. Santee in chairman of the social science department at Oregon College of Education. Group Talks About Phones PEDEE Forty-five persons at tended a meeting at the Woman's club hall Tuesday night to discuss the possibility of a telephone line into this community. The service in this area was disrupted upon the establishment of Camp Adair and has been without service since. Fred E. Brassfield was act ing chairman and Mrs. Sidney acting secretary. Several persons spoke of interviews they had had with various telephone officials and a very lengthy discussion fol lowed as to area to be served-, number'-of Drosiective subscrib ers, and if advisable to construct mutual line, which was not favorable to the group. Fred E. Brassfield : was elected permanent chairman and Miss Nelda Trueax, secretary. It was decided that the chairman ap point a committee to ascertain facts and report at a meeting to be held Wednesday, December 17, at the same hall at 8:00 p. m. Everyone interested in telephone service is urged to attend. Com munities represented were: Airlie, Pedee, Cherry Grove, 'Fir Grove, Kings Valley, Hoskins, Ritner and Simpsons camp.
