2 p.m. Friday, with burial in the
Fairview cemetery under the di
rection of the Weddle funeral
company. Witt was born In Ger
many April 7, 1893, and had been
a resident of Marion county for
about 32 years. He is survived by
his widow, Mrs. Ruth Witt, Mill
City; a son, Vance Witt, Wood
land. Calif a dauehter. Mrs.
Eleanor Hubbard, Portland; fa
ther, Henry Witt of Mill City; a
brother. Otto Witt, Mill City; a
step-daughter, Phyllis Anderson,
and a step-son, James Anderson,
both of Mill City.

services for Mrs. Maud Ethel Mc
Timmonds- Richardson, 74, who
died Thursday night at the home
of her son, John C. Richardson,
will be held Monday at 2 p.m
from Henkle-Bollman with Grover
Ferguson, reader, in charge.
Mrs. Richardson was born Nov,
30. 1873. in McTimmonds valley in
Polk county. and lived all her life
in Polk county. She was the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexan
der McTimmonds. Her husband
died about 10 years ago.
Survivors are a son John C
Richardson, Dallas; daughter. Bur-
nis M. Farrar, Salem; sister, Olga
Holman, Portland; brother, Fred
McTimmonds, Rocky Point, Ore.;
grandson, Riley John Richardson,
Cherokee, Iowa; granddaughters,
Nancy and Actitia Farrar, Salem;
Patricia Richardson, Billings, Mont
UAL to Keep
To Schedules
United Airlines . morning and
evening schedules from Salem will
continue passenger and cargo serv
ice as at present until new sched
ules become affective November
17, H. S. Sweeney, local station
manager announced Thursday.
Ninety per cent of UAL flights
remain intact, Sweeney said,
through use of DC-5 and DC-4
equipment while DC-8 equipment
is grounded during investigation of
fireswhich were involved in plane
crashes at Bryce Canyon and Cal
lup, N.M., recently. All cargo serv
ice by UAL is intact, he said.

Jefferson Mrs. Roy Mason of
Beattie, Kans., is visiting for a few
days at the home of a niece, Mrs.
O. G. Howard, and family of Jef
ferson route 1. She will go on to
California to visit a daughter be
fore returning home.
Roberts A rummage sale will
be held Wednesday, November 19
by the Roberts Mothers club to get
some needed equipment for the
school. The club recently pur
chased and presented to the school
a phonograph.
Pratum Mr. and Mrs. Russel
Gaines and family of Newberg
entertained with a dinner Sunday
for her father Fred deVries, on
his birthday. Other guests were
Mrs. Fred deVries, Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur deVries, Lois and Glen
de Vries all of Pratum.

Judd Talks to
TO Law Class
The recording and filing of le
gal pleadings and other operations
of a county clerk's office were
explained Friday in a lecture by
Marion County Clerk Harlan Judd
before a Joint meeting of code
pleading and practice court clas
ses of the college of law at Wil
lamette university.
Clerk Judd used an original file
of one recent suit which had gone
to the state supreme court to trace
each step in the proceedings until
final order was made and the com
plete case entered in judgment
roll. Judd also showed sample-re
cords from Marion county hies
to demonstrate the evolution from
pen and ink records to typed re
cords, the currently used photo
stats and the microfilm records
planned for local use when equip
ment is available here.

Palmateer to
Receive Award
Presentation of a 25-year service
award to Oral E. (Mose) Palma
teer, Salem route 9, box 175, is
to be made November 28 by
Standard Oil of California, officials
announced Friday.
Palmateer, one of 128 employes
to receive the 25-year pin this
month, started with the company
in Salem and was with the local
branch for 22 years. For the past
three years he has been a represen
tative of the public relations de
partment, traveling over western
Oregon.

the Leslie auditorium. In charge

Eleonor Robert's ninth grade
English class plans to give a book
review, over the public address
system each morning during Book
week, November 17-21. They are
also making booklets containing
six book reviews.
Poster Contest Winners
Jim Bell won first place in the
poster contest 'sponsored by the
Salem Philharmonic association,
and Mary Ingram won second
place. Revee Pepin and Reva
Jones got honorable mention,
Jim's winning poster was a pic
ture of Werner Janssen who will
conduct the Portland symphony

Vrooman Rites
Slated Monday
Funeral services for William
Vrooman, 74, moulder and steel
fabricator in Salem fori many
years, will be held at the Clougb-
Barrick chapel Monday at 3 pm.
the Rev. Maxine Roberts of Port
land officiating, with interment in
the City View cemetery.
Vrooman died at a local hospi
tal Thursday after an illness of
one week. He had lived at 3220
State st for many years. He was
born at Bloomington, 111., and came
to Salem in 1909. His first wife,
to whom he was wed in Illinois
in 1901, died here in 1935. He mar
ried the former Sarah Keys of
Salem in 1943 and she survives
him
Vrooman worked for the' Salem
Iron works for a number of years
before going into business for him
self. He was noted throughout the
northwest fir his work as a molder
of brass and iron. He was a mem
ber and officer of the First Spirit
ualist church of Salerru-
Surviving besides the widow are
a niece and nephew who live in
California. .
