An, irregular drift, followed a moderately active opening. While advances of fractions to a point or mpre were well distributed at the close, declines of as much pre dominated. Buying here and there was based on persistent business opti mism. The ending, of credit con trols iand the shift Of British voters to the conservative ranks were rnildjy bullish. Apprehension re garding taxes, possible reinstate ' ment; of several economic regula tions! by congress and the refusal of the market to respond to good newsj inspired further selling. The Associated Press 60-stock i composite was unchanged at 65.5 owing to the; fact that a few wider gainers were in the index. I -I'iiiiil Produce PORTLAND.
