William Ross, Ex-Post Office A Employe, Dies Services for William Gould Ross, employe of the Salem post office for 26 years, will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Clough-Barrick chapel with the Rev. Seth Huntington officiating. He died at his home at 990 Tamarack st. Tuesday following a heart attack. He was born in Michigan August 15, 1888, and was a resident of Salem for about 30 years. Ross was forced to retire from the postpffice in June, 1948, fol lowing la stroke. He was dis abled from that time until his death. He was active in the Na tional Federation of Post Office Clerks. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Alta E. Ross of Salem; a daugh ter, Mrs. Gene Cunningham of Salem; a sister, Cora Landsberg of Portland; a brother, Elmer I. Candidates Initiation of approximately 60 candidates in the Order of the Arrow, Boy Scout camping honor society, will take place this com ing; week end at the order's fall meeting in scout Camp Pioneer in the Cascade mountains above Detroit. . The candidates were chosen for membership into the order by fellow scouts at during this past summer's camping season at Camp Pioneer. With addition of older members and adult leaders the party at camp Saturday and Sun day will total over 75,.Lyle Leigh ton, Salem scout executive, said Tuesday. A group of some 35 Salem scouts, led by Leighton and Scout Officer Jerry Scott, will leave from Pringle park at 5:30 p. m. Friday. Similar groups from 35 scout units from other towns in the Cascade area council will arrive at the Camp Pioneer Friday night. Ceremonies for candidates will take place Friday and Saturday, with official initiation planned for Saturday night. Eligibles will work on tne camp s outside council ring by building a fireplace and installing seats, while older mem bers will complete work on the trail around Pine lake, Leighton said.
