Herbert Smith of Willamette university and Mrs. Smith will be hosts for their annual reception for new students on the campus Monday night at University House. The informal affair will be from 8 to 10 o'clock with all freshmeji and new students invited to call. Walter; Erickson will introduce the students to the receiving line which will include President and Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Erickson. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fenix, Dr. and Mis. Lawrence Riggs. Dean Olive M. Dahl, Mrs. Arthur Unerode, Dean and Mrs. Seward P. Reese and Dean and Mrs. Melvin GeiM. Mrs. Harry T. Morris, new head resident of Lausanne hall, will preside at the punch bcwl. A group of coeds, representing different organizations on the campus, will assist about the rooms and in the entertainment. President and Mrs. Smith have set October 1 as the dr.te for their annual reception in honor of the boiird of tiustees and ntw faculty members. Dates Se( for Concerts Salem Community Conceit association will o-n its series this year on Friday, November 21 with the appearance of the Leonard dePaur Infantry chorus of 36 negro lingers. This is the firM major concert attraction to come out of World war II. The group gave over 2500 concerts for the armed services. The dePaur ensemble m;ikes up its repertoire from the music of the many lands the soldiers have visited. Mia Slavenska and her Balk t Viii i;mte, a company of six dancers and two pianists, are booked for December 12. The St. Louis Sinfon ietta of 21 players will be here March 15 and on March 14 the young "superman of the keyboard," William Kappell, will appear. To close the series Bidu Sayao will give a repeat performance on Aprli 12. So many requests were received by the concert board for Miss Sayao. who appeared here in 1942, that the committee re-engaged hr for this sason. All concerts will again be held at the Salem high school auditorium and season tickets will be mailed the last of October, three weeks be fore the first concert, as is customary with the concert association. First Woman's Club Meeting First meeting for the fall season of the Salem Woman's club will be an event of Saturday, September 27 at the clubhouse. Mrs. Estill Brunk, president, will preside at the board meeting at 12 o'clock, which will precede the salad luncheon at one o'clock. Mrs. J. N. Chambers heads the luncheon committee and assisting are Mesdames Henry M. Hanzen, U. G. Shipley. H. O. White, A. L. Wallace, W. E. Hutchens, Frank G. Myers. J. T. Whittig and Frank L. Browr.ell. Hospitality committee for the day includes Mesdames Walter L. Spaulding. A. L. Wallace, Norman L. Poland rnd F. M. Lobdcll. Members will hold a tea towel shower for the clubhouse dur ing the afternoon. During the business session Mrs. Brunk will introduce her com mittee and department chairmen for the ensuing year. The program will include a sales tax debate with Mrs. Louise Humphrey, Portland, pro, and Mrs. Doris Stscey, Salem, con. taking part. Madame President Another year cf activity for the many women's service and patriotic organizations in the city will get underway this month. Pictured here today are presidents of a few of the larger clubs, who will carry on the aims and purposes of their groups for the ensuing year. Nearly all cf the clubs are holding their first meetings this month to formulate plans and programs, engage speakers, and outline their philanthropic and service work. It will be under the lead ership of these wemen and their board members to fulfill these responsible dutfs. Leaders Meet ... The women's division of the Community Chest drive has gotten underway to a line stait with final plans made by the leaders at a lun cheon meeting Friday afternoon when the wom en's division chairman, Mrs. L. V. Benson, en tertained at her East Nob Hill home. Several hundred women workers will participate in the drive opening October 7 and ending October 16. Pre-campaign activities began this last week. Loyal Warner, Marion county chairman of the chest drive, A. C. Haag, Salem chairman, Carl Hogg and Charles A. Sprague spoke to the leaders following the luncheon hour. Invitations are in the mail for the wedding of Miss Prudent Joyce Foster, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Foster, to Robert L. Reed, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reed of Amity, which will be an event of Friday. September 26 at the Calvary Baptist church at 8 o'clock. Dr. Charles Durdcn. assisted by the bride-elect's brothel -in-law. the Rev, Harold Gilman, will per form the ceremony. Miss Bernice Kleihege will sing and Mrs. D. B. Kleihege will be the organist. Light ing the tapers will be Miss Vclleda Trick and Miss Lucille Dunigan. Mr. Foster will give his daughter in marriage. She has asked her sister-in-law, Mrs. Addison Foster, to be her honor attendant and bridesmaids will be Miss Shirley Brace of Portland and Miss Lois Fuicher. George Van Otten wilt be best man and ushers include Wayne Giesy and Frank Barrett. A reception wiU follow in the church pal lors. Miss Fo6ter is a graduate of Salem high school and the past few years has been in Portland, employed, by the St. Paul Insurance Co. Her finance is a graduate of Amity high school and attended Oren State Teachers college and Oregon State college. He served four years in the United States army air force. Florence Lewis Tells Bridal Party Miss Florence Lewis has completed plans for her wedding to Dr. Robert Samuel Orr, which will be an event of Sunday. October 5 at the First Methodist church. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mrs. George K. Lewis and the late Dr. Lewis and her fiance is the son of Mr and Mrs. Robert Orr of Pirtland. Dr. Daniel Schulze will perform the nuptials at 4 o'clock with a reception following the ceremony in the Carrier room. Josephine Albert Spaulding will be the soloist and Miss Jessica Kinsey will be the or-. ' ganist. Ira D. Lewis of Yakima will give his niece in marriage. She has asked her sister, Miss Barbara Lew is, to be her honor maid. Mrs. James Barnard of Corvallis and Miss Margie Luzader of Portland wiU light the tapers. Dr. John W.
