Fall Wheat Up To Peak $2.50 CHICAGO, Aug 27-(!p-Further indications of low food supplies in Europe, plus a hike in 'the gov ernment buying price for export flour, sent wheat to new seasonal highs on the board of trade to day. September wheat crossed $2.50, highest ever reached by a September contract. Wheat closed 1 to AYa higher, September $2.50 a to lk, corn was 1 to IVa higher, September $1.09 to $1.10. The production and marketing administration hiked its flour buying price 20 cents a hundred pounds, prices, varying for dif ferent grades and point of de livery. This made up the reduc tion announced after the July drop in wheat prices. Hoss Speaker At Silverton SILVERTON David Hoss, KOCO program director spoke at the Silverton grange in Legion hall Friday. Demonstration of an electrical' transcription, by making a record of his own voice, was given by Hoss. Frank Porter, overseer, presid ed. George Busch, master, was absent. Plans for annual booster night September 26, were made. Booster committees include dec orations, Mrs. William Rue, Mrs. Otto Dahl and Mrs. Ethel King; harvest and fancy work, Thelma McClure; fish pond, Mrs. Karl Haberly; coffee, Carl Specht; dis play table with a collection of pictures of members and their wedding parties, direction Home Economics club; fancy work and harvest exhibit auction. Irianlia Scouts (ainp On Way to Jef ferson IDANHA The Boy Scout troop left Friday on an outing to Jefferson park.' They were taken to White Water by Hubert Ray and Ralph Adams. They planned to hike to the park for a weekend camping, but because of many weather they were unable to get into the park so spent - the time at Big Springs forest camp. The group included Billy Petterson, Bruce Martin, Dixie Goodeve, Dickie Woodward, Earl Lady, Donald Ketchum, Richard Han sen, the scout leader, Chester Slater and the mascot, Verner Slater. Ex-Salem Blacksmith Succumb: in Portland PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 27 -(JP) Funeral j services will be held to morrow! for George Westerfield, 89, member of a pioneer Oregon family who was born in Lafayette March 28, 1858, and died at his home here yesterday; Westerfield operated blacksmith shops in Sa lem, Dayton and Newberjg before moving to Portland 35 years ago. An early forward shift, led by mi la. failed to attract much of a following and trends soon turned moderately irregular. Transfers of 480,000 shares compared with 620,000 Tuesday and were a low for 5 hours since September IS, 1944. Some demand, mainly by pro fessionals, was based on the hope that a September rally would: eventuate if soldier bonus spend ing develops as business prop and reinvestment demand revive. E. and S. G. Whitney of Port land, escaped with minor injuries shortly after noon Monday on highway 222 at the Goode turn just east of town. The two men, father and son, were driving trucks beloneing to the Willamette Hauling company! of Portland. It was reported that the load on the first truck, driven by the father, shifted and turned the truck over on the side.
