Don't Cook Now . . . but . . . in a conversation during the first band concert in Willson avenue, Russell Brock, member of the consular service who was spending one of his infrequent visits to his home tcwn, was speaking of the beauties of Salem. He declared that he had never in all his travels, seen a city with such a beau tifully laid out city center, with the court house grounds, postoffice, Willson avenue and ccpitcl grounds. Many a city, declared he, would pay most any price lor such a layout. He declared his surprise that the city would consider breaking into this city center with a bus depot. Surely, said he, some ether place could be found, just as suit ed to use, yet one which would not destroy the vista c lawns and public-buildings. "If the depct is.fcuilt, it will be only therfirst of such commercial infringements made in the name of 'progress.' " " ' ' la derer . . . We have on our desk a bulletin in which we are informed that the U. S. department of agriculture has been do ing work on how to make crTl clovers have four leaves. We are told at great length that they have been trying to week out a four, four-leaf clover, and how heartbsoken they are at not succeeding - - in a word they are out of luck. Maybe in the interest of econ omy they'll eliminate the synthetic, four-leaf clover bureau. ' And speaking of lack . . We were talking to a man who dropped a piece of bread, buttered side down and who remark ed that he was going to spread butter on the head side of a coin, go out and match pen nies with it, and rake in a fortune. V. MacDonald of Portland, at a simple ceremony in the study of the Rev. Paul Kunzman of the Lutheran church in Vancouver, Wash, before members of the f am ily and a few friends. For her wedding the bride wore a pastel blue two piece faille frock with peplum, pink felt hat with blue veil and matching accessor ies. Her corsage was of gardenias and pink rosebuds. Mrs. Arlene Staples was her sister's only attendant. She wore a navy blue and white ensemble with white felt hat and white ac cessories. Her flowers were gar denias and rosebuds. Theodore Lenaburg was best man. A wedding dinner followed the ceremony at the home of the groom's parents in Portland. The couple will live in Independence where he is employed at the West ern Auto Supply Co.
