Thompson, who hat property just . outside city .limits near Hillcrest school, received special permission to draw water front a city main near his land Alter a city council discussion Wednesday night on the policy 't last year to deny city water to outside areas not seeking an nexation to Salem. The council voted S to 3 to consider Thompson's special case and give him necessary authority fter City Manager J. L. Franzen explained that Thompson had pur chased 800 feet of two-inch water pipe last fall in the understanding that area would join the city or be would get special permission for the water line to enable him to develop a home on his property The council decision was op posed by Aldermen Gille, Jorgen en and Fry, who expressed the opinion the city should be con sistent in its policy. Fanners Hear Plans for Show CENTRAL HOWELL The Central Howell local of the Farm ers Union heard Roy Rutschman, chairman of the agriculture com mittee explain rules for the com' lng Corn Showand requirements for the Yield Contest He also announced that the FFA's in Sa " lent, Silverton and Woodburn would take an active part in this Marion County Corn Show. Ernest Werner and W. T. Hat teberg reported for the coopera tive committee with Henry Tor vend and Frank Way speaking for- the legislative group. Ap pointment to the educational com mittee by the president, Silas Tea-vend are, Frank Beutler and Hubert Esser. Mrs. Clarence Johnson gave the Cheer Commit tee report. Clarence Simmons, jr.. Mrs. FJ ton Watts and Esser were ap pointed to make arrangements for a picnic.
