Ranch Ramb lings B Rural Reporter Marcus Vetter, Monitor, in a tagging demonstration held in con junction with the 4-H sheep judg ing school at Harms Brothers farm, Canby, recently, pointed out that with sheep shearing time close athand, preparation of fleec es for market is of utmost im portance in this country at the present time. Quality wool from New Zealand and Australia offers severe com petition to the comparative lower grade fleeces produced here. He suggests the following points for the improvement of quality in our wool: 1. Sheep should be tagged prior to shearing. Tagging is im portant in the prevention of dis-. ease and helping the lambs to get started. 2. Shearing sheds should be kept clean to reduce stains on the fleece?. 3. Fleeces should be securely tied to prevent falling apart. 4. Use only paper fleece twine for tying. 5. Do not pack wool bags too tightly. This condi tion gives the impression to the buyer that the wool is of heavy shrinking quality.
